Notes
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the debut studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd,
recorded 21 February – 21 May 1967 and released on 5 August 1967 by Columbia.
Please check carefully the existing vinyl releases before adding new releases to the database to avoid duplicates. There are many slightly different versions of this release, and especially the reissues / reprints with black Columbia labels from late 60's to early 70's are hard to tell apart. Some advice can be found in Pink Floyd Archives website, even though it is not official and can't be referred to as a source. Different coloured vinyl "Columbia" reissues with cat.# SCX 6157 are all unofficial releases.
Performed by:
Richard Wright – Farfisa Combo Compact organ (1–7, 9–11), piano (2, 5, 11), tack piano (4, 11), Hammond organ (3, 4), harmonium (9, 11), celesta (8, 11), cello (9, 10), Lowrey organ (4), vibraphone (8), Hohner Pianet (9), violin (11), percussion (4) (uncredited), vocals

This is a fantastic budget pressing. Sounds great to my ears, perfectly pressed and quiet as all get out.
-
I started out with a fame issue as my first copy when I was a teenager then managed to get hold of nice quality first presses of the mono and stereo versions when they were reasonably cheap in the late 80s.
The fame version still holds up today against the originals very well and a such ive kept hold of my fame copy which is still in decent nick. -
There is some info on an italian web listing this is a 6th UK edition from 1974. https://digilander.libero.it/mrpinky/piper_stereo_uk.htm Can someone confirm? Sound is awesome on this pressing! Great instrument separation, dynamics and presence! No sibilance or artifacts in high pitched sounds. Not a 1st pressing but I won't/can't pay stupid money for records... If you find one, I recommend buying!! You won't regret it.

I just found a 1969 Winchester US copy of Piper with the colorful labels. Only $15 and the cover is in real good shape. I was shocked to see it and expected the record to be trashed but it is very nice. I have had Nice Pair for 40+ years but I have never or maybe once seen a copy of Piper in the wild. If I did it was a first press and the price was out of my league. I have yet to play it as I just got home with it and came on here to which press I had. I found this at one of those antique shops where everything is way over priced. So I was flabbergasted at finding this for only $15. Later all.

This one label variation is actually super RARE. I've only seen it once for sale in a Copenhagen vinyl shop !
Couldn't afford it because it was like almost prestine NM for 500 euro -
Edited one month agoDon't know why this version is listed when there is already a listing for a mono Rainbo West coast pressing with exact same type setting on label and spelling mistakes.
This is a great sounding pressing btw. -
On this pressing the runout matrix numbers are etched/written, not stamped.
Info needs changing on this. -
I have a NM condition cover copy with some signs of age on the edges VG+++ intact, if you are interested write to me.

Compaired to the original this sounds dull and muddled. I know the original has a different price tag but the album A Nice Pair contains both Piper and Saucerful. The early version of this album uses the same matrixes as the originals and can be found dirt cheap. -
If you count major sleeve/label variants, it's the fourth. This may not be the most valuable pressing, but it's quite possibly the rarest!
