Compaired to the original this sounds dull and muddled. I know the original has a different price tag but the album A Nice Pair contains both Piper and Saucerful. The early version of this album uses the same matrixes as the originals and can be found dirt cheap.
-
Lacks the sibilance of many other pressings, but not the detail and general sheen. This is my favourite version of this album.

3 attempts but finally a winner.
1st... badly non filled and sounded pure nasty.
2nd... scuffed/scratched all over not as offensive as 1st but not acceptable
3rd... well done Optimal its like a pre covid cut... flat and zero defects and plays with no noise.
Mastering.... for me its vastly superior to the mono release which sounds shrill and lacking in atmosphere compared to this wonderful stereo remaster. At the end of the day this is some far out LSD trip of a record, the whimsy of it only making it madder still. To rob it of the panning and echo effects which are almost entirely lost in mono serves to rob the record of 50% of what makes it great.
In my opiodinion 🤪 -
My copy is flat, no dust, no noise, no cracks, no pops, no static, and played directly, from sleeve to turntable (any cleaning operation)
And great mastering and sound. -
Edited 4 years agosound is good but vinyl material is cheap like other new press vinyls , it collects dust and static.

So far Iv had no problem with the 2016 repressing, they sound greate and all the covers have been re-invented to stay true to the original artwork to with a much more modern approach Wich I think realy works, however, on this one album, the sound is great But what is with the back art! Why would they out a fake flap on the back cover? What's the point? I don't even think It would be cheaper as they've had to employ to design a fake shadow! It's so anoying. It just means your paying for a less Quality product compared to the rest. Such a shame.

Edited 8 years agoAgreed, there really needs to be a mono release along with this stereo reissue, there are quite a few differences and I think it sounds better. Probably the mix the band intended to be heard.
-
"mastered from original analogue tapes" hopefully translates to "lacquers cut from original analogue tape" if so.....we are in for quite a treat.
