Edited 3 years agoBootleg here...but I so recall scoring this LP clear back in 1967...I was a freshman at USC in downtown LA and I tooled down to Western Avenue and hit a small record store that really appealed to a black clientele...Saw this and scooped it up and went back to my STUDIO apartment and played it over AND over under the black lights in my pad...This is a MONO version but I had the stereo one that really moved the signal from speaker to speaker (That be on "Interstellar Overdrive" cut)...Heavy man, heavy...Fond memories as I settle back today and enjoy what is left in my brain cells from that era...The group went on to release so much music over the years but for me this album will always be my pride and joy from Pink Floyd...

This one is kind of ok. A bootleg but a good bootleg all the same. Audio is ok but not the best and the sleeve photo is very grainy. I got my copy for £10 and a first press will go for £100 so there you go, here endeth the lesson.

This pressing is a much more affordable alternative to tracking down an original issue, and they've done a smashing job with the packaging and label. The marbled wax is available in multiple colors, (I've seen brown, pink and dark blue thus far), but this is where its merits end.
If you're purchasing this as a pretty addition to your record wall then by all means - this is a great buy. But sadly, the audio is poorly-sourced and/or pressed.
The label lists the recording as mono and, out of curiosity, I performed an A-B test syncing it with the same recording from the much lauded Discovery CD Box Set. This bootleg pales in comparison to the Discovery remasters. Where most of my LPs are punchier, louder and more dynamic than their digital counterparts, the reverse is actually true in the case of this bootleg.
This pressing sounds muddy, flat, lifeless and dull when played against the well-produced Discovery set.
If you're truly after the best sound, go for the Discovery remasters. You won't be disappointed. But if you just want something for your shelf, pick this up... your secret is safe with me.
