Edited 7 days agoGonna have to break up the party here. Good news is that it's a clean, quiet and flat pressing with exact artwork duplication. However, to my ears it's not recorded well and never has been compared to almost all of their work other than Accelerate which was truly poorly recorded. R.E.M. are the tale of two halves. The first 8 albums are all good then the final 7 pale in comparison for sure. Monster begins the poor era off with an ill fated attempt at a hard rock album which ends up sounding like a lame punk album. I agree with bands trying something different but they sound so far out of their skin on this one. Simply just a catalog filler for my R.E.M. vinyl collection and not a repeat player.

This pressing is listed as c side and d side, and the labels on the wax itself says that, but I'm not seeing anything about a side and b side. The original LP does not seem to refer to itself that way. Is it some kind of in joke that I'm not getting? Anyone know the story behind this?

Edited one year agoHas anyone purchased this from any big online retailer like popmarket, importcds or amazon? if you did, did you receive the US or Europe version please? from what ive read here, the US version cut at sterling is the one to go for. but as usual, the UPC for both US and EU versions are identical. thank you

Sounds great! Whisper quiet and dynamic, loved dropping the needle to hear What's The Frequency sound really nice and rich. Awesome album!

Edited 9 months agoI found a sealed copy of this during the pandemic for less than $20 CAD and I finally opened it and was surprised to hear just how good this album sounds.
To my ears, and knowing this album intimately, it has never sounded better: less compressed, wider soundstage and room for the instruments to breathe allowing the vocal to pop through more so because of the lack of extra mastering compression from 94.
This is truly demo quality. -
Came across this version at my local record store. This press is fantastic. Stipe's vocals are super clean, and the guitar tone is out of this world.

Just picked up this version on Amazon for $21.00. Wow this is one of the best sounding record I've ever heard at this price point. Good job Craft for getting this right.
