Edited 24 days agoI purchased this heartfelt classic album last year(24") on cd to "check it out" for myself to see what all the
fuss was about and WOW- IT`S BRILLIANT!(https://discogs.librosgratis.biz/release/3944384-Nick-Drake-Five
-Leaves-Left).
This Reissue,Remastered on 180 Grams in a Gatefold "wipes the floor with it" though - This IS STUNNING!!
Five leaves left truly is one of(if not the)greatest English Folk,Folk Rock albums EVER written lyrically and
musically. My copy isn`t perfectly flat it has a "perfect dish warp" so STILL looks flat on the "up side" but plays to the
same high standard,it`s noise free with all the dynamics from high to lows to give the listener the real 70`s
folk vibe with NO digital glare just sounds so analog.
This one is No filler just pur Killer from start to finish, highly recommended five stars, thank you for reading.

Sadly I got a bad copy too - recently got a 76 Achilles pressing that sounds much more open and Nick’s vocals sound much better… bummer
-
molto silenzioso, con pochissimi click. bel palcoscenico, forse il basso un po' pastoso, ma non ho mai sentito altre stampe e non saprei dire se suonino meglio o peggio. non discuto sull'opera che è meravigliosa.

Edited 8 months agoI don’t have early pressings to compare to, but this sounds pretty decent. Sounds very mellow and warm. However, I wouldn’t say that it’s dull by any means. You can hear all the instrumentation really well and the vocals are clear. The pressing itself is also very good. No clicks or pops or hiss. Happy with this reissue overall.

Edited one year agoLike many mentioned, I find my copy is also muddy and bloated. Sean Maggie, Abbey Road Studios, last time I bought one of Black Sabbath reissue with same dreadful audio. Argh!
Edit: I changed power cable (wall to power strip) to PS Audio AC12, suddenly the whole presentation changed for better. No more muddy mess, instead Nick’s voice “stand up” while the band and instruments are spread out behind him and creating a nice depth of the audio space. So now I think this reissue vinyl could served as tricky audio test vinyl, only the correct setup can unlock the magic. (My system: Pro-ject RPM10, ZYX R-100 Fuji, PS Audio Stella phono stage, Musical Fidelity A3 pre/power amp, B&W 805s, Nordost TYR 1 phono and interconnect/QED Genesis Silver Spiral speaker cable/PS Audio AC12 and Statement power cables) -
I just received the 180g reissue and first impressions are not good... it sounds bloated without any of the air or clarity that is present in the FLAC version on Qobuz.

Bought mine on release. Sounds dull and muddy for the most part. Vinyl had a lot of scratches since new. This album deserves better.

This is a very good reissue
I bought a 3rd press this week and compared the 2 and whilst the 1976 press has a bit more air , clarity , 3dness etc, there is not alot in it and i was not unhappy with the reissue
So unless a bargain falls in your lap like it did for me , enjoy this reissue.
If it is your favourite album and you cannot live without hearing an earlier press i can highly recommend any of the island 70s reissues , the later ones especially are good value as they sound great... they were not pressing huge quantities of this record in the 70s so the tape & stampers were hardly being worn out -
Edited one year agoWell, I think this re-issue is wonderful. Lovely bottom end. Smooth top end (not dull on my system at all...unless you're comparing it to an acoustic guitar album made this century!). It's 1969. It's warm. It's mellow. But still, the woodwind, the strings, the fingerpicking have enough zing and tang. It's balanced, in other words. Personally I think this is how mastering of vintage recordings should be.
It sounds like a pink Island LP.
LOVELY!
Quiet pressing too,
