Edited 3 months agoMy copy of this is literally in mint condition, not a single mark on the record at all. However there is still quite a bit of surface noise, I have even had it ultrasonically cleaned. Anyone else's like this?

An absolutely brilliant record, both in of writing and performance and in production. Joe Boyd gets out of the way and lets Drake's voice and guitar shine. Other instrumentation is sparse and gorgeous. The real standout, however, is the string arrangements.
I have a recent Island Records reissue on what feels like 200g vinyl. It sounds really good, but it is my second copy, and both were pretty badly warped. So beware. -

Edited 8 years agoA great album. All of Nick's albums are great. Love his voice and guitar. I'm mainly into punk stuff and love him dearly. I consider this the first folk record I ever got into. "River Man" is my favorite song off this album. It's a good end-of-the-day song. Good for when you're depressed, drinking beer and watching the sun go down on a hot summer day. RIP. Hard to believe he ed away at only 26.
I'd heard the name Nick Drake off and on for years and assumed he was a 70-something year old music legend. Didn't really know who he was. Quite surprising when I finally heard him and realized he had died decades before and was quite young. His name is quite handsome. -
Very 1st pressings are on textured Pink Block Label - 'Polydor' Pressing
This can be easily identified by the textured matte label with the ridge around the edge. The album is on heavy vinyl and the matrix numbers are ILPS 9105 A//2 & ILPS 9105 B//2 (A//3 - A//3 varients exist) which are machine stamped. There isn't an A1/B1 matrix pink label. All of these are Pink Rim labels and probably unofficial reissues. The gatefold sleeve was printed by Ernest J. Day and the track order for Day is Done and Way to Blue is reversed. The labels show the correct track order listing. The Island Records address on the back is Basing Street, London W11.
