One of my favorite albums of the 1990's. Love the selection of songs, the haunting atmosphere of the music, and that beautiful voice. I think this pressing sounds pretty good, there's 53 minutes of music on this slab of wax, so you need to turn it up, but once you do, the soundstage is wide, detailed and spacious. Purchased new, my copy has a visible defect in the opening seconds of "Deeper Well" that causes the needle to jump, and there are also a couple of pops just before "Sweet Old World" begins.

My copy is pressed a bit more off-center on Side 1 than I care for, especially as it's a Chris Bellman remaster. However, it's flat and quiet (despite being cut at a bit lower level than average) and it sounds great. No problems with skipping on "Sweet Old World" that others have reported (using a Technics SL-7 linear tracker).

Edited 8 months agoLove this pressing. Lot of music pressed on each side so expect to turn it up. Once done you will be rewarded with a warm rich enveloping sound. Highly recommend.

The pressing is excellent but it's cut at a very low level (it's a long album) so you need to turn up the volume a bit. When doing so, the sound is quite good, detailed, clean and transparent, although still lacking a bit of impact.

picked up new - my system sound-wise is run flat - on purpose - this is a beautiful sounding record - no regrets on this one and a steal at the price ----no negatives on my end

Bought new and it sounds lovely, though the copy I picked up has something stuck to the vinyl between side B tracks two and three. Just couldn’t get it off, even using a toothbrush. Even with the handful of pops this causes between tracks it still grades A using the grading feature of a Puffin Phono DSP.

Lots of mixed reviews, I picked up my copy Jan of 2022 and it sounds great, its clean and flat , it sounds dynamic and warm from the first song to the last , I was also concerned about the 50+ min running time but on this press i hear no degradation of sound, Ive been listening to the original cd since 95, its always been a fav album of mine, i would have to highly recommend this pressing!

Edited 4 years agoUPDATE: Jan 1, 2021. I gave the album a deep clean and what a difference it made. It opened everything up. There's clarity, some dynamics and a lack of surface noise. It may not be Wish You Were Here good but it's good once cleaned. YMMV. ...Quickly switching between Tidal HiFi over USB and the vinyl indicated they're in the same ballpark. I'm keeping this one...

Thanks to others who have posted. I guess I'm not alone then. I just opened this pressing this morning; I have the clear vinyl too. Major disappointment; I love this album but, sonically, this pressing is flat and distant as others have pointed out. There's no comparison between the Tidal HiFi Master and this pressing with the Tidal Master being much more dynamic and present. There's no point for me in keeping this one...what a disappointment. -
HELP! Can anyone else please confirm if their copy of this 2020 black vinyl edition skips on Side Two/ Track 2 - Sweet Old World approximately half way through the song despite showing no visible marks?
I'm totally gutted, waited many years to get a vinyl copy of this fantastic album now on my 2nd copy of the same record from Amazon and both skip in exactly the same place, I truly believe it's a print issue and if someone could my suspicion then I'd be very grateful. -
Great pressing and dead silent between tracks. A little less bassy than the digital mix, but that's just a plus for me. And make no mistake, there isn't a lack of bass. It's just not as punchy. I think the sound therefore is a little bit more rich and wide with the guitars and other instruments being a bit clearer to me.
