This is strange to me. Maybe someone can explain.
Ordered from Amazon.ca and received what outwardly appeared to be the correct 2018 package however...
Disc 1 has the P. USA Pallas runout ID's identified in the 2018 pressing listed above.
Disc 2 has the runout ID's from the 2022 RTI mastered version CB 39817.3(3) and CB 39817.4(3)
Both pressings have the same bar code: 858978005776. Not seen this before.
Does this qualify as a variation?
Also, if you look at the label images provided for the two unique listings, it is obvious the P. USA stamp is visible in both submissions for side 4. Could even be the same photos.

My system or turntable isn’t the issue, I get better sound from my Iphone plugged into my receiver than I do listening to this on vinyl unfortunately after multiple comparisons the phone wins :(
It just sounds incredibly harsh and bright, kind of closed. Doesn’t help at all that the bass guitar is famously absent. -

No really good quality on the cut. The edges are not smooth but like saw teeth. The sounds on the other hand is really good. Yes, Ride The Lightning insert here too. ing Metallica.com.

Edited 2 years agoDisappointed that the insert is Ride The Lightning. When I realized other people had this issue, I sighed in relief but, at the same time, I'm tempted to the label and have them send me the actual insert. I wonder if anyone's had any luck with that?
EDIT: I sent a inquiry to Metallica.com and got a response within an hour. They will be sending me the correct insert! I suggest everyone do that, assuming they were disappointed to not have the proper insert. -
does this sound better than the original CD? james lars and company shld release a special mix with newsted's bass being audible. they'll make millions more anyway. sigh. from wiki: Newsted was not satisfied with the final mix and was unhappy that the bass was inaudible.[11] Thompson was also unhappy, and blamed Ulrich for the decision; he tried to quit the project, but was blocked by management.[17] Rasmussen said in 2018: "I'm probably one of the only people in the world, including Jason and Toby Wright, the assistant engineer, who heard the bass tracks on And Justice for All, and they are fucking brilliant.

In my opinion, the best sounding version of the album ever.
Mediocre to good pressing quality, the substrate respectively.
Strongly recommended. -
Wasn't expecting too much from this release, however it absolutely blew me away! Every song sounds amazing, and the 180G is a nice touch. There were a few pops for me near the beginning of One, though other than that the sound is flawless! Incorrect insert as well.
