U2 – War

Just picked this pres. There was a Woolworths pice tag dated March 8, 1983. Store 645 (St Neots, Cambridgeshire). The record was released on February 28, so it’s got to be an early release. The inner sleeve is not printed, it’s plain black with a poly liner.

Does anyone else have this version with a barcode top centre of rear sleeve 4007192052592? No back sleeve photo on this listing

Not that this album would ever be confused with an audiophile pressing, but this pressing in particular leaves a lot to be desired.

This listing shows a sleeve the same as "Version 3" of the Australian pressing (red spine text on the wrapped photo background). My copy of this release has a sleeve the same as "Version 1" of the Australian pressing (white spine text on the wrapped photo background). One could assume it went through the same progression from Version 1 to Version 2 to Version 3 as was done for the Australian pressing.

Very good sounding pressing of this album. Sufficiently prominent but not overpowering bass, if that's a concern of anyone. I have no doubts that an OG UK is the best pressing, but that one doesn't have the cartoons of the band appearing in the insert here :)

Awesome pressing, great sound, very punchy! Does justice to a classic u2 album :)

2+ years late to this thread but wanted you to know that my copy is pristine and has no stain anywhere.
Owned since new and have kept it that way.
Agreed that this is one of the better pressings of this album.

This sounds absolutely awful. Seriously I cannot say this enough, STAY AWAY FROM THESE PURPLE LABEL PRESSINGS !

I don’t know how they are with other albums but this pressing sounds absolutely lifeless and dull. STAY AWAY YE HAVE BEEN WARNED AVAST THEE

I’m just confused as to why this sounds so much worse than my OG blue island label for example, maybe I’m overreacting but this sound sucks in comparison to my blue label and remaster.

Go with the remaster instead, it’s cheap, widely available and sounds fantastic.

i have a weird reverse of this, where both the case and shell say each side contains full album, but its actually split to both sides. i put side b in expecting sunday bloody sunday but the refugee played instead. maybe someone recorded over with the proper sequence on each side?

i bought mine at sister ray Berwick street for reasonable money in the 90's, Really they should know better. I have always suspected it was moody. I had a regular vinyl copy of War so I never bought it to play it, really. I think it sounded ok because i don't recall an issue with the quality. Also a bit of Sunday Bloody Sunday fell off. maybe it will look nice on a wall. it does look good.
