I had this release tucked away for years on a shelf. Had no idea the rarity until today. Nice Surprise. I did play it once. Unfortunately the cover sustained a small tear (less than one inch) near the opening. -

I've seen plenty of bad reviews on these Def Jam anniversary releases. But this one sounds good and clear enough to me. I guess it being just about 45 minutes of music it does sound good in one LP. Some of the other Def Jam reissues were 50+ minutes of music squeezed into one LP, so yeah I could imagine some drop off in quality.
I agree with others about the printed sleeves, I see I am gonna have to buy another sleeve for long term usage. -
Edited 2 months agoHave one like this; everything matches only the center window is large and there are no timing numbers beneath. Still plays good after several decades in closet.

Just a note - Blackbelt studios is not capable of cutting from tape. So you can guarantee this record was cut from digital

Vinyl sounds great, sleeve looks like it was printed on an old xerox machine.. Terrible! But that said, it’s the music that counts, right? -
First hip hop album to go #1 for a reason. The classics plus some underrated tracks such as slow ride.
