re the 3x 10'' coloured RSD release.
This is brilliantly CUT from a superbly well recorded MASTER.
Bass is full, mids are sharp, & highs crisp.
However, it was PRESSED from a master than had audio artifacts in several places, so while FULL sounding & impressive, it also has many tiny crackles, & ONE JUMP on my copy during the very last track, this was from a MINT shrink wrapped copy.
The crackles sound like WEAR & TEAR , but are actually in the pressing... so a Mint copy will play as if it is between NM, VG+ & VG !
I imagine the regular LP will be from the same masters (please mention if not), so all copies will have ingrained crackle in places. Did the original 80's press have these as well?
This OCCAISONAL surface/artifact noise is not a massive hinderance to anyone familiar with reggae quality control (or lack of) it does sound INCREDIBLE & heavyweight, with superb separation & all the frequencies required! But it will play with some occasional noise IN PLACES - not throughout.
So I do recommend it, but with reservations that should be considered.
....as to the jump on the last track, did anyone else get that as well?

Edited 6 years agoI once had a record, or should i say, it once had me ... well isn't it good, Jamaican wood?
-
Am struggling to identify whether my copy is the Canadian or USA Clocktower release, can anybody help with identifying the distinction between them?
