Not a review…I picked up this record after seeing the Smiths at The Smith Center in DC. At that time, I was buying most of my music on CD and stopped in at Tower Records close to the venue to buy the CD. I figured I’d just bring it into the show. The Smiths, however, were only available as CD imports and too expensive for my budget at that time in my life (Not easy to find, either). Tower had them in stock but I recall they were $25. That’s like $79 in 2025 money.

I ordered a copy and was sent the 2007 UK picture disc. 🥺. So now I’m torn…..should I play it or not? Anyone ever played a picture disc? Are they meant to be played????

outstanding pressing very dynamic and punchy and very good soundstage and instrument separation !! I own all the other smiths on uk first rough trade and they are phenomenal sounding pressings but I think this US sire press hangs pretty darn close !!!!!! I also own the rhino re-issues which are pretty good as well but the magic is in the first UK pressings and this sire US here

My version sounds fantastic, mostly due to non-use...1st play recorded to cassette, and rarely played since. Quiet pressing after ultrasonic cleaning. Variant 1. Highly recommended!
