This definitely sounds different to streaming. Hits like “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” and “This Charming Man” sounds much more clear compared to the muddy Spotify mix. Also, the song selection is spot on. Definitely a must have for those looking for an affordable Smiths record that has it all.

...and even that old CD has a great dynamics at WDDIM... Better than the old album had. My favo the Smiths -record. Oddly.

Although a compilation, this album should be the first port of call for anyone interested in the music of the Smiths. All the songs are great (and you get a lot of them for your money), the running order is immaculate, and the band’s performances are very tight. Some of the songs appear elsewhere in different versions but most of the other recordings don’t have the same charm, much of which comes here from the unfussy, intimate production. It’s difficult to think of another example where a single recording so completely encapsulates a band’s work.

i'm absolutely buzzing because i have just been in my local used record shop to pick up a nm copy of "the smiths" and found hatful of hollow on the shelves ... it was a bit dirty so i took a chance, as you never see this , they fly off the shelf ... anyway , listening now and it sounds amazing. just needed a clean and it is in really good condition - same as the gatefold. Someone must've traded in their Smiths records..

I know these songs so well but only ever from digital and hearing them now is like the first time ... how soon is now is one of my all time favourites and it sounds incredible.

the only downside is they have put too much music on so the end of each side has a slight distortion... almost an hour of music in total, if someone did this on 2 LPs it would be amazing

anyway - go get one quick!

Honestly can't recommend enough. If you can find a clean copy it's definitely worth the extra money!

Best ever version of "Still Ill" here, except for that damn harmonica! Otherwise it's postpunk Byrds heaven. Like REM, a lot of the classic Smiths LPs are let down a bit by the 80s drum sound. Not on this little gem.

Such a wonderful album; sounds warm and beautiful. Basically my intro to The Smiths (and is the 1st pressing). So much so that I just bought a first pressing of The Queen is Dead.

My copy has A1 B1 on the run outs Don’t know if this is more desirable

This is one great sounding record. These tracks sound excellent. Nice punchy drums and heavy hitting bass. The clarity and separation are also on point giving these songs a nice wide soundstage. The songs here sound a lot better than my US Sire Louder Than Bombs compilation. Everything is crystal clear here including Morrissey’s voice and the overall sound is warm and full. This may be the best I’ve heard The Smiths sound on record next to my Japanese edition of the self titled LP. Anyway, the sound quality on this record is ace. I redcomend.

A comprehensive compilation of The Smiths's' hit music, with a high quality of pressing that lifts these compositions to a previously unheard of level of clarity, which is crystal clear. It is certain to make an ideal present for a friend or a loved one in your life, just so long as they are not offended, by Morrissey (the lead singer)'s very racist points of view!!
