Recorded live over several sessions. A full albums worth of jazz standards was the idea, but after listening to the tapes, they decided that what they had was good enough to release, despite using only three songs.
The Grisman tune, 16/16, was only played at one of the sessions and happened to be the only time Jerry Garcia ever played the song.

And now ORG are putting it out, so it may well sound even better, if that's possible. -
I would just like to correct something said about this album. These guys planned to do a full jazz album, not merely put out 4 songs, 3 of which get alternative takes. Truth be told, Jerry died before their work was finished and so David felt what was there was still (rightfully so) worth releasing. I can only dream how amazing this album would have been had they completed another 7 songs or so! Anyway, if you’re listening David, please release the vaulted live Garcia/Grisman. There are many shows in SB recordings where we get to hear setlists containing a few of these jazz takes mixed in with with the rest of the beautiful songs that spanned together. How long must we wait for for we already know exists? Much of the fan base has already died off. It’s been 27 plus years now in waiting and that’s a lot even for the faithful⚡️⚡️⚡️
