Originally released in 1998 with patterned labels. This reissue can be identified by its solid yellow labels, by the additional information found in the runout grooves, and the purple hype sticker being placed on the left side.

Edited 3 months agoLots of surface noise. Continuous rhythmic popping. It really ruins the album. Definitely do not buy this, it is hella expensive and sounds like crap.

Edited one year agoA Single sleeve for three records should be a crime!
Other than that my side c/d was warped, and the records were really dirty despite being bought new..
The Sound quality despite the state of the records is pretty decent.but my biggest gripe is the packaging. -
Edited one year agoPicked up an Amzon UK repress justthe other day. Always wanted this masterpiece on vinyl even if 6 sides means alot of to and fro'ing to my player. At £38 for an album and 4x the CD cost would this blow me away?
The answer is absolutely and resoundingly NO. This is a garbage reissue of the lowest quality from the packaging to the vinyl pressings themselves. The jacket is as cheap and basic a single sleeve as one could suffer. The CD offers more with its booklet for one. The records are all miserably warped (laughably pringle esque) have serious scuff marks and visible non fills to boot.
They are so bad i refused to waste my Degritters distilled water on them let alone let them near my turntable needle.
Im not really suprised tbh.... only 2 US plants care about pressing records. The round paper only sleeves are a throwback to Rainbo and also URP but whoever pressed these just doesnt give a sh1t about quality and has no pride or love in their work whatsoever.
On principal alone for that and without the price or anything else coming into the equation this was one of the fastest rejects ive ever had.
Stick with the excellent CD... it embarrasses this release. -
Just got a copy of this album, everything is almost the same as this but it says made in Mexico on the back cover (printed, not sticker); and the runout has 73008260531 A etched in writing and then the following is laser cut into it: (1230921) 01010207. Not a bootleg, bought from a reputable record store in Texas. Anyone know anything about this pressing? Labels, barcode and everything else are identical to the 2009 release.

Edited one year agoI think it's a good release, but not awesome.
Sealed copy I received plays fine, some crackles but nothing major, and most are gone after the first play and some brushing, didn't even bother to wet-clean it.
Sound is very good, but actually I kinda prefer the digital version frankly. The vocals on the vinyl sound more "dry" in a way, and overall it actually sounds a bit "thin". It's not bad by any means, it does sound more "3D" (as you'd expect), but doesn't give much in of added warmth or oomph, the sound-stage is just a bit "wider" and all in all it sounds different but not better than the digital.
Package overall isn't something to write home about either, cheap paper sleeves, plain labels (also severely off-center on E), no inlays no nothing, cover print is good but far from great.
Did expect better, frankly - given this is one of my favourite Hip Hop albums of all time - plus it's really expensive.. 💁♂️ -
One of my favorite albums ever but this definitely needs a repress. Lots of crackling and surface noise on this one, even when the records have been cleaned.

Great mastering, pressing is typical for United in this time period….noisy in the quiet parts. Mostly won’t notice it during many tracks.
-
Mastering and pressing is good, but unfortunately there is some surface noise with occasional minor cracks. Whilst it isn’t audible for a vast majority of the album, you’ll hear it in the quieter ages and dialogue. Hoped for better.

Adore this album. Pressing is excellent. Super quiet, with no noise on my copies. Have no idea how an original sounds, but this version is plenty good for me.
