Bought a sealed copy of this while on vacation. When I got home i noticed there is a small scratch (barely visible) that cause low (but noticeable) pops in the first two songs (side A). A bit disappointing :/ Be aware.

Quite a great pressing! One of the best hip hop albums to come out in the last ten years. There were some hairline
scratches on a few of the sides but it did not seem to effect playback.

Striking Hip Hop Gold After the Rush Had Ended Decades Ago

You know there's a serious release in music when, on the Friday it was released, everyone in my office that listens to music was going from office to office telling them to immediately start streaming A Tribe Called Quest's latest and final album. ATCQ's sound has remained untainted, despite a major shift in hip hop theme since they released their last studio album at the close of the 'golden age of hip hop' in the late 90's. Time was to their advantage: keeping their original sound, combined with 18 more years for music to develop for them to sample and tenured artists to collaborate with yields their final, but brilliant wave before hopping on the retirement train.

There's something to be said about the guest list on this album. The realization that you're listening to hip hop while organically having Jack White play guitar in the background of a couple tracks, Elton John singing, and André 3000, Kendrick Lamar and Talib Kweli laying down verses is like genre barricades of music being lowered in the greater good of fulfilling the need for authentic, timeless music, not rushed-to-release albums. It's an appropriate time to say "this album came out of no where" when it's been 18 years since ATCQ has released studio work, but what a phenomenal, grin-inducing surprise.

I can't wait to see what other artists are inspired by this release, and mold their perception of hip hop as a result of ATCQ's decades of work reiterated with this release. I'll be citing this album as a great gateway album to getting into hip hop as a whole, along with Mos Def's Black on Both Sides, Illmatic by Nas, and Eric B and Rakim's Paid in Full. I hope this opens up the door to newer hip hop fans who listened to this most likely because it's their newest release, but find out about ATCQ's history and look back at their earlier albums during the true 'golden age of hip hop'. These albums are the work that made them so coveted and revered. Links below to some of their earlier work that rivals this release.

Love this album, the pressing does not do it justice unfortunately... My disc 1 had a few significant pops on both sides. Sound overall is a little flat. And as mentioned by other reviewers, they didn't seem to care much about the packaging :/

Sounds okay... A tad quiet, bass can be muddy at times, and mine came with a pretty big scratch. It doesn't affect play, but still an issue. And no gatefold? For $30 CAD I expected a little more.

I think this is a nice record, surprising actually. Sounds nice on my system. Agree with the packaging being sub-par.
Most infuriating is the Murican only card.
I bought mine in Canada. Crazily, it has a big freakin sticker on it advertising " Card Included". Don't be fooled, unless yer Murican.....the card only works in Murica.
                Pfft.

surprised this wasn't a gatefold sleeve. pretty poor packaging and as per a lot of new vinyl, the records are stuffed into hard paper sleeves. no good for your records at all. would have been prepared to pay a little for a better quality all round product. shame.

Not a huge fan of the pressing or packaging. For the price (around $30CAN), I was surprised that there's very little effort put into this LP. The sound quality is acceptable. I was disappointed with how flat it sounded. However, I love the album so I'm fine with owning it. However, I hope they put more effort into the mastering and the packaging in the future.
