Notes

Lift off lid embossed box including the vinyl LP in its original ‘heavyweight tracing paper’ sleeve, original album CD in replica 'tracing paper' sleeve, a bonus CD of previously unreleased tracks, two DVDs of live shows and TV appearances plus a 48 page hardbound book. The hardbound book features rare photos and new interviews with each member of the band.

Both the CDs and DVDs are housed in individual mini-LP replicas with picture inner sleeves containing the discs. The inner sleeves show photography of the period and track list recording information per disc.

Some copies come with an additional dark grey "band" surrounding the box displaying the BBFC's Video Packaging Review Committee (VPRC) rating of 15 "Strong Sex References. Language". Whether the band was included depended on the outlet. For example, the official New Order store copies did not - at least initially - come with this band. The content of the box-set is otherwise identical.

It’s a very nice box that leaves little to be desired for, but I can’t help thinking it’s massively overpriced. Although the price of the Low-Life box has significantly dropped since its release, it’s still high. I got both of the other two box-sets (which are equally nice btw) for a decent discount… .

Elegia was (and is) a special New Order instrumental track for me, from the first time I listened to it. It struck me in a pure classical and electronic way, pretty much unique as the New Order sound (because of the keyboard). It is a powerful opening track for the B side of the record and I love it. I don't dwell on it, I move on to the rest of the record.

So, I was excited when I disocvered there was a longer version (first appeared in the New Order Retro box, 2002, on the "extra disc" which was in some of the boxes - the 17:30 minute "full" version). Listening to the "full version" taught me something about music > more of something good isn't necessarily better. My excitement fizzled out. 17:30 minutes of Elegia is maudlin, saccharine, too much. That is why they edited it.

The album version of Elegia is moving; a tight and perfectly captured piece of heaven, you don't get bored. 17:30 minutes, ummmmm. Tedious.

And that is sort of what I think of this box set. It is an intersting historical archive for one of the strongest 80's indie bands. However, I wouldn't really care to play any of the extras on the CD often. Ditto, the live DVDs. No, don't think so, there are other better live New Order performances.

So - every time - I'd go to the original, perfect album. An iconic album for the Eighties, New Order were a band who could claim a number of their albums to be iconic.

This is a beautifully produced, lavish, box set with a lot of not much in it.

I agree with the below comments, the 12" singles are a huge omission in this box series - but that would make the box sets expensive. (Like the Depeche Mode album boxes - a joy for new collectors, but superfluous for fans who already have all the albums and 12"s.) Actually, having said that, the New Order boxes ARE expensive. At that price they could have included the 12" mixes AND remixes on 33 RPM albums - they chose not to. [12", 45RPM can always be produced better, with extraordinary clarity and resounding bass, but you can also get extraordnary 33RPM sound production . . . ]

Just unboxed and playing for the first time. The vinyl is quite warped. It doesn’t seem to affect play thankfully but I wonder if anyone else’s is like this. Curious as the vinyl was well protected by the box itself and sturdy packaging

The "more images" section here is missing some images within the sleeves themselves.

I just really appreciate the very affordable price tag of this box. 1 LP and a bunch of obsolete formats. Fantastic

I dont know how they release a box set version of this LP and not include a disc containing all of the 12" mixes, B-sides and instrumentals. This feels very incomplete to me.

Got my copy of the box set in. Ordered from the US official store. And I got two copies of DVD 2 in the box set (which was sealed) and no copy of DVD 1. Awesome. I'm soooo looking forward to trying to get the correct DVD from Rhino/Warner.

Those OBIs are cool. I got one with PCL but not with this. It's a joy tho'. Subtly metallic box, matching book, and - finally - the recreation of the 'onion skin' wraparound, including a gorgeous facsmile CD version. Oh, and Warners (NO Store) actually packed it properly in a purpose made box this time, with the extra singles (mirror Kiss natch) in a separate box.

Marking Elegia (Full Length) as unreleased seems a bit daft, since...well.. The first release of that track was in 2008.
