How do I compare this one to this one (https://discogs.librosgratis.biz/sell/release/21812689). If I don't have the other one to weigh the weight of the record.

I just picked this album up today and I’m really glad to have it and sounds incredible EXCEPT…
Here’s my question for you guys - this thing has a shit ton of pops and crackles but it looks super clean. I’m thinking the grooves must just be caked full of gunk and it’s probably never been cleaned. I don’t have an ultrasonic but I’m gonna ask the record store I bought it at if they’ll clean it. What do you guys think? Can the pops and snaps be cleaned away? I’d really like to get this record sounding clean and quiet because it’s the best I’ve ever heard this album sound! -
Edited 11 months agoI own this since day one and it sounds stellar!!! To my ears, "Amnesiac" comes second after "Ok Computer", then third come "Kid A", "In Rainbows" & "A Moon Shaped Pool" and fourth would be "The King Of Limbs", what do you think of that subjective rating???

Amnesiac is my favourite Radiohead album and also one of my top 3 albums of all time. Still draws me in immensely every listen.
I read every interview, album review and press feature with the band at the time of release and they often mentioned that they were listening to a lot of jazz, Krautrock and 20th Century classical albums for inspiration while making Kid A and Amnesiac. Radiohead were experimenting not just with incorporating more electronic sounds and samples but also intensely studied the mastering, composition and song structure of their favourite albums by Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, Alice Coltrane, Kraftwerk and CAN to see what it is about the albums that make them so timeless. In the process, they created their own timeless masterpiece across two albums.
Can’t fault any track on Amnesiac but if I were to pick favourites (today), I’d choose Pyramid Song, You And Who’s Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Dollars & Cents, Hunting Bears, Like Spinning Plates and album closer Life In A Glasshouse, a collaboration with jazz trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton and his band. -
Edited one year agoThis is, in my opinion, the best Radiohead album and when I heard that the songs were recorded on the same sessions of the ones from Kid A… I question: did they left the best for last? Sonically speaking is also excellent, with similarities to Kid A but, to my ears, Amnesiac is also better in this chapter.

Edited one year agoGreat press, sounds wonderful even with some light surface noise, which I feel totally adds to the vibe of this album. Found my copy in very good condition at Reckless Records in Chicago for 75 bucks which I found well worth the price. It pairs well with my OG Kid A and it’s satisfying to have originals of these two legendary albums, as well as cross my very first wantlist item off four years later!

Edited 2 years agoIf you're trying to buy this pressing on Discogs I advise you to ask the seller to email you pics of the matrix runouts before paying. I shipped one back a few days ago because it ended up being the 2008 Capitol repress. Then today, I had to refuse payment on a second order after getting pics of the runouts. Both attempts were the 2008 pressing mistakenly listed under the 2001.
edit: shout outs eBay for the legit copy -
Edited 2 years agoA guy at work in London when this came out in 2001 said to me "yeah but it's shit" ...
He was meaning to diss me because he knew I liked it (and he was one of those 'rock' fans who tuned out after The Bends because RH had become too popular and too electronic/experimental for them)
When I listen to this again now 20+ years later and hear how unbelievably damn good it is I just can't help grinning to myself and laughing at the guy - what a knob!
