Edited 11 months agoMastering is terrible. It would seem that this cut from the same butchered master used for the previous release. All the energy has been taken out of the drums, and everything else has been pushed to the point of becoming a bit of a smeared mess. Discs are perfectly pressed and play back quiet, and if you only are interested in this for the ritual of listening to a record, then by all means. But, if you were looking for an elevated sonic experience you will not find it here.

I'll still give it 5 stars as it's one of my favorite records, I just have one issue with this release. My copy did not come with the free insert that usually comes with the other DMB Records. Maybe I'm having a dumb moment here but It is not in the sleeve. I have 3 copies of the CD of varying ages, but i was looking forward to the studio outakes of Granny, Nancies and Jane.
-
I’ll agree with the other positive reviews here. It’s a dead quiet pressing, good sound, very clear and dynamic. As one of the two best known albums from DMB, it’s packed with familiar content guaranteed to either bring back a flood of memories or adequately display (to those that don’t know) what launched this group to the forefront of popular music of the 90’s and helped to build one of the most loyal fan bases of contemporary artists still recording and touring. Also on a personal side note, I find the the dearly beloved and departed LeRoi Moore sounds very present on this record, a bit more to my ear than the other albums.
-
I have both the 2015 180gr numbered reissue and this more recent 150gr version. The 150gr is the better master for my taste. Good and punchy dynamics. The 180gr is overly compressed and flat sounding compared to the 150gr. This is a naturally sibilant record as some people have had issues with. Both of my copies have sibilance in the same spots. Such a great record. Glad I have what I feel is a better version of it!
-
Does anyone have issues with sibilance? Only really noticeable part is the last word in What Would You Say.
-
I had relatively low expectations given this was produced in the digital heavy 90s but this really kinda blew me away. Incredibly dynamic. Punchy on the low end, crisp drums, glistening acoustic strumming, and all instruments hold their own space. Very very happy I got this.

Purchased from Walmart. I’d say I have a mid fi setup, very impressed. Sounds great, highly recommend.
-
It's not true AAA as they took the tape and digitalised it for some unknown reason, however it still sounds bloody good. Not as good as the AAA Crash issue, but still really good!
-
Sound-wise this is one of the cleanest records I've heard. The previous owner had cleaned it and cared for it extremely well which should be considered however as it isn't uncommon for records to be dirty when opened mint from the factory. To sum it up, extremely pleased with how it sounds.
Interesting how on this release it omits the gatefold and lyrics print out etc. Would have made this a perfect release if those were included, but the sound is more important of course!
