Reviews
-
Like several digitally recorded albums I own, it has a very low hum I don't get on older or AAA records. Not noticable with music, and crowd but irritating at the beginning of each side. None the less, it's a very good live album that captures PF minus Waters performing flawlessly perhaps with studio overdubs.

All 4 discs look perfect. Cleaned in ultrasonic machine and they are dead quiet and sound great. Large soundstage and nice presentation. That said the treble is a bit reduced and I notice this on the drums especially. May just be the mix of the original live concert. Turn the treble up a quarter turn and it sounds just right. Booklet is nice but it’s just a bunch of photos in low resolution. So 4star.

Like most of the newer Pink Floyd reissues, this pressing has some pops and clicks. You'll probably need an ultrasonic cleaning to get the best from it. However, it's 100% worth it, especially for fans. The live recordings are stellar and capture the band when they were in top form. If you appreciate the dynamic, immersive, psychedelia-tinged connection that Gilmour/Wright/Mason deliver when they are locked into the ether as synchronized antennas, you'll love this. The other musicians also do a tremendous job, and you'll only miss Roger Waters for about 5 seconds. Max. This four-platter set is necessary for Floydians, but maybe not for casual fans. The packaging is nice, too. The hardback book is full of photos from the tour, which is nice, but I feel they lost an opportunity by not including any liner notes. The packaging makes it more of an art object, and you won't spend much time with the book, but the music makes up for it.

Purchased multiple times because of damaged LPs. Deep scratches. Packaging on all was near mint. I landed on an okay mix of LPs. No majors pops or scratches but still a fairly noisy pressing. One of my all time favorite concerts. Probably my least favorite PF record. Side note I had my liner notes signed by Nick Mason and Guy Pratt ;) met them in Spokane while they were rehearsing for a tour. Cheers.

Purchased 12/23/23 from Amazon US for $79.66. LP1 had something stuck in a groove that wouldn't come loose, causing loud pops. LP2 had numerous pock/divots. Replacement was much better.

Sounds phenomenal! Pulse played an early part of my introduction to PF way back in the day and this version absolutely exceeds the digital versions I was initially exposed to. Strangely my first copy had the “E” side pressed on the “B” side. NO clue how that happened! Luckily Amazon still had stock so a replacement was feasible.
-
My copy had an unacceptable amount of pops on two sides (F and G). A few clicks throughout, but the loud one's totally ruin the entire Darkside of the Moon. Waiting on a replacement...otherwise the sound is phenomenal. Drums, bass, guitar all perfectly mixed. Dynamics out the wazoo, with soundstage and depth. Hope my next one cuts the mustard...and I have a high tolerance for a few clicks.

Excellent remaster and top notch packaging. This is a keeper and will only go up in value over time!

Got this back in Sept 2020. Played it all the way through a second time just now, and I like it better since I upgraded the amp, wires and speakers. Much more room filling and present sound. Some of the tracks seem to have the drums and percussion set too far back, but others have them prominent as they should be for a PF recording. Bass is great throughout and the pressing is quiet and generally clean.

Edited 2 years agoMeh, it’s ok.
Sounds very much like it’s cut from digital to me as the records sound noticeably sterile and not as involving as I’d hoped for. In this case, another PF 2016 re-issue where my OG CD of the same album sounds better :-S (better bass punch and extension, more dynamic and alive)
The Vinyl records themselves were very clean though. The hardback book is great, but all the inner sleeves have seam splits (apparently a big problem with these re-issues).
Having said all that, if you want Pulse on vinyl and are put off by what the OG pressings go for, then this is still worth buying while they are still affordable.
