This is a lifeless pressing, poor dynamics -it might even be related to the mixing sounding too digital. Kind of ironic for this to happen on an album by Steven Wilson. Initially I thought it was my system, now that I have a much better system still sounds awful while other albums including those from PT sound incredible. I'm planning to buy a second-hand CD -not gonna pay full price for something I already 'have'.

Nice...Very Nice... The sound brightened up after I finally got around to cleaning it Ultrasonically. (A pleasant surprise that I did not expect.)
-
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to listen to Fear of a blank planet on vinyl. After a few cleans it sounds very nice and I can’t help but put it on whenever i feel like listening to the album.

Music: 5/5
My favorite Porcupine Tree album. Beautiful pressing that sounds amazing. Much more dynamic range than on my old CD copy of the album. This is progressive rock, but completely accessible. The "progressive" tag owes itself to the complex song writing and the top-notch musicality of the band during longer instrumental stretches. Sometimes, Steven Wilson can tend to meander a little too much, resulting in songs that can be boring or aimless. Not on FoaBP; every riff feels like it was chiseled out of rock to be exactly where it is. No fat on this bone. Try it if you dig A Perfect Circle (or Lateralus-era Tool), mid-era Rush, or Anathema.
Pressing: 3.5/5
The records themselves are thick, flat, and sound amazing. No hairlines or defects on my copy. However, the gatefold is just industry standard cheap-feeling cardboard with no insert. Lyrics are printed on the inner gatefold. The artwork is reproduced well. Just average. -
Disc full of hairlines and even a bad scratch at the end of the side D. Loud background noises. I have the same problem with In Absentia. At least this disc is not dirty as In Absentia, but the background noise is a lot louder than that one. They should pay more attention in the factory quality control. If I lived in Europe I would return it, but as I live in Brazil, to return it would be a nightmare.

Beautiful reissue, very good and clean sound! Black polyliner inner sleeves, lyrics printed at the inside of the gatefold.
