Worth it for the embossed artwork alone. Inner sleeve and gatefold art also fantastic. All has a mexican day of the dead feel to it.

Edited 2 years agoOne of those records I bought and liked, but didn't love as I adored 90's Afghan's, but upon pulling it back off the shelf after some time and really listening to it again, and reevaluating it based on its own merits, I found myself more intrigued with every listen until it made it's way into rotation. Lyrically it's a strong Dulli set of words (check out Copernicus & I Got Lost!) , and in some ways it's a pared down AW record that warrants repeat listens to really grasp the beautiful desperation running throughout it. It's kind of a perfect mix of classic AW's (Light as a Feather), Twilight Singers (I Got Lost) and Dulli's solo work (Demon in Profile), all of which I find fantastic. It's a tough expectation road ahead when you release the trilogy of Congregation, Gentleman and Black Love, but once you find the patience and / or deep breath to judge the post Black Love work on its own, they're also works of incredible dark splendor. This is no exception and comes highly recommended!!! I rarely have any issues with Sub Pop's pressings, and this is no exception, sounds great. Sweet cover art btw.

Bought the signed one from Barnes Noble. It was just the only one available and damn is it a great album. Can't wait to catch them live.
-
FYI, there is also an "exclusive" LP version that is signed by Greg Dulli, available only at Barnes & Noble stores, that costs less than the Loser edition..

Edited 8 years agoAnyone else getting other colours throughout the white vinyl? Mine has a fairly big pink smear/splodge on side B. Shame spoils the look a bit. Sound is good though.

I just got this and already listened twice. It's a really solid album. The sound is really great too.
