AC/DC – Highway To Hell

This is the album that introduced me into music. I can't forget my first time when I was 10 years old: the opening 3 chords, the silence, more chords, more silence, drums, and Bon's vocals... just pure energy straight from Hell. Amazing album, as the best of AC/DC, it embodies the essence of Hard Rock, with true Blues and Soul core.

I found this original 79' French pressing on a local store for 30€, VG+. I knew most acclaimed pressings are UK, US and Australia, but also that this French pressing plant (MPO) has good reputation, so I gave it a try.

Bon's voice is amazing. Bass, drums and voice are the stars of this pressing. Seems like this press has more pop/disco oriented balance than (from what I read) the US/UK, more focused on the raw aspect of 70's hard rock. I couldn't do the comparison with those pressings directly yet, but I heard this CD a zillion times before. On this one, it feels like guitars are just a little bit watered, giving more space to vocals, drums and bass tones. It's not very drastic, but you can slightly feel it all through the record, specially during guitar solos.

Anyway, as I'm particularly ionate about Bon Scott vocals and the rhythmic character of AC/DC, this pressing is not bad at all to me, it's a discovered gem. The only track of the album that I feel gets demeanished by this sound character is Night Prowler, as it is mainly about guitars. All this made me realyze that Highway to Hell in general is the more pop/vocals and less heavy/guitar oriented of the Bon Scott era albums.

Just to echo other comments that this pressing sounds incredible! So much punch, separation and power. Lucky to get mine for £12 and plays beautifully!

This destroys my 2003 remaster! Wow, great balance with thumping low end and screaming guitars but without overpowering the midrange. This can be cranked loudly without fatigue or distortion. Best sounding version I’ve ever heard.

I have two other AC/DC reissues in my collection and they sound great. Is this copy just as good?

Loud. Like, really loud - but not noisy. Sounds great. Bon’s vocals are well placed and the soundstage isn’t condensed. Awesome album and killer gold vinyl!

Great record! I have a little additional crunch in the opening riff on the title track. Could be my pressing. The pressing sounds terrific though…much better than the 50th release.
