The Raw & The Cooked is the second from two studio albums (1985-1989) by the English pop rock band Fine Young Cannibals, released in 1988.

Many editions only have have 1988 as the latest copyright date, suggesting this album may have been scheduled for a late 1988 release. Multiple sources say the album was not actually released anywhere until January/February 1989.

The first single (She Drives Me Crazy) debuted 26 December 1988 in the UK, and the 2nd or 3rd week of January 1989 in the US.

Bought four copies of this. First three played well, but crackly when quiet and between tracks. Assumed this was the same for all pressings. Bought fourth copy recently in a batch of records and it’s PERFECT - silent throughout background throughout.

Just got a mint copy of this - and I'm shocked. The CD beats this for sound by a country mile. I don't know if other pressings are better, but as for this one, I think it's pretty poor. Sorry, was expecting a lot more.

Get the CD rather than this. IMO.

One of those albums that I've now had on multiple formats. Like FYC's previous album, this sounds amazing. It's very well produced. Does it still hold up after all of these years? Some of it does. Great press and a great album

I revisited this record recently, and went nostalgic for a half a second. Once I got ed the three radio hits, I was instantly back in the present and realized why this record was a force back then. FYC went hard pop but there was "Hard as it is" which could have easily been on the debut. Best of the 80's classic and timeless. The debut is a desert island disc for me, but Raw and Cooked is as good in a different way. My two cents.

Does anyone know the release date for this - the earliest says 1988, but Wiki says it was released in january of 1989.

Addendum to the notes re track 2-13. It is indeed edited, however it's only missing a brief coda at the end which really has no relation to the rest of the track. In it Prince Paul's friends ask how he learned to remix and a sample plays which says "My mother taught me" while a reprise of Good Thing plays softly underneath.

It's been hard for me to love this album, and I tried. FYC's first album came out of nowhere, I had never heard anything like it; the music was layered, the wall of sound was engulfing and Roland's voice felt like sex and life rolled into one. 'Fine Young Cannibals' is a masterpiece, 'The Raw & The Cooked' reeks of... success.That said, and I'll go to my grave with this view, this album contains their catchiest song: Don't Look Back. Just wish I had heard this second album first.
