Master for Hard(d)rive EP and remixes of its lead track, "Deep Inside".
Little Louie Vega originally made a 5-track EP for Strictly Rhythm under the alias Hardrive (sometimes misspelt as Harddrive). This EP contains two versions of "Deep Inside" plus the tracks "No Cure", "Maurice's Vibe" and "Just Believe". The EP was released in various territories outside the US as well.
"Deep Inside" became the most popular track of the EP and was remixed in Italy by Alex Party shortly thereafter. These remixes were released as UMM 117 and can be found in this master.
New Masters At Work remixes of "Deep Inside" were made in 1995, along with a new recording, "Is It What We Need?". These remixes (SR 12399) can also be found in this master.
At the same time, Strictly Rhythm released the Hardrive EP on CD, featuring the original 5 tracks, one of the new remixes and "Is It What We Need".
"Deep Inside" was remixed in 2009 once more.
Do not use this master for the remix of "Just Believe": Hardrive - Just Believe.
"No Cure" contains elements of "Love Hangover" by Diana Ross.

I did buy this when it first came out ( used to buy everything Masters at Work put out in the early 90s). But times change and tastes change and by the end of the 90s it got sold along with a heap of other records. ( I did keep the clear vinyl 12” of Just Believe” lifted from this e.p. for some reason!). As mentioned below - I think this came out around the same time as NuYorican Soul - The Nervous Track. The Nervous Track to me is a timeless classic - whereas Deep Inside is, I feel, very much 'of its time'. However - if you like it - I'd recommend checking out Mood II Swing's excellent dub mix of Barbara Tucker's Beautiful People. -

Edited 12 months ago'Hardrive - Deep Inside' has become an absolute classic! With this white label promo version you get a great sounding pressing. At some point I would love the original press with that iconic album artwork cover! The remixes of this are OK, but it's the original mix on here that everyone wants. My version it just a white label with no stamp in it like in the picture. -

Louie Vega has made reference on how the mastering of this record is not good. He did so during the RMBA lecture with Kenny. I feel the sound bangs. The top-end is a bit muddy but its a raw record so thats the feel I expected. He references over-compression by mastering engineer or perhaps the cutting engineer. I do feel the record has less dynamics than others, but again, i thought that was the mission for this track. Thoughts? -
I'm disappointed with the sound.The sound is weak, far from the original pressing.

“Deep Inside” is definitely one of the most important songs in the history of house. It’s 2023 and this song still rocks. I’d love to hear the story behind this song. -

August 1993. Pretty sure this came out same week as 'The Nervous Track' as I buying them both in City Sounds as new imports the same day.
