Camel – Moonmadness

I strongly think this is a bootleg. The matrix number on the underside of the disc, is cut off. Dynamics are indeed horrible. The 2002 remaster sounds way better.

This is a great sounding box set, spread across 2 CDs and 1 Blu-Ray. CD 1 is the "original 1976 mix", unclear to me what the actual most recent mastering year of it is. CD 2 is the new 2023 remix and remaster, and sounds excellent, with deeper bass and a lot more separation and clarity compared to CD 1. The 5.1 mix sounds fantastic to my ears, an amazing listen. I still love my original vinyl, but wow this sounds so good.

Does anyone know what this first French edition sounds like?

Inferior to the MOV version but not by much.

The mastering is fairly close but this is both a little more muted (drums and snares and bass too soft) while at the same time not being as clean and sweet in the treble. They are close but the MOV is that bit more engaging and lively.

In pressing quality the MOV is silent while this does have some tics here and there. I suppose for GZ media its very good but Record Industry are simply better at pressing records, end of.

Packaging wise again the MOV wins out as it has a better quality soft touch matte textured gatefold that is nicer than the one here. Again not alot in it, but it has the edge.

Overall the MOV wins on all fronts but this isnt terrible. In fairness i hoped it would be better because my gut feeling is the MOV isnt perfect itself, but i really should just be happy with what i have!

My LP got no surface-damage like clicks and pops. It plays flawlessly! Very happy with this awesome release.

Excellent pressing. Only thing i'd chance is the paper texture sleeve.

This is a great pressing of this last gem in the discography of Camel. It's very full on the low end. Not as airy on the high end as the european pressings to my ears, but to me the prefered issue of this.

The 2023/2024 pressing of Moonmadness is still not listed on Discogs. Don't ask me to , I don't know how that works.

This is actually a really great pressing of Moonmadness. To my ears, it sounds better than the the Decca 90 reissue - it sounds more alive.
