Let me caveat this review by saying that I’ve always held back on comparing pressings on Discogs, but this record is too damned important for me not to say a little something. I previously owned the Rhino pressing, which didn't do it for me - it fell flat throughout, sounding like a shadow of the record I loved. So it’s with some trepidation that I sprung for this 2025 pressing.

The good news is that it sounds like an improvement on the Rhino pressing, and the more spacious tracks, such as Condemnation, Judas, and Get Right With Me, hit like a hammer. On the downside, more crowded moments lose much of their definition. And as other reviewers have noted on previous pressings, it’s pressed at a low volume and needs some gain to give it the requisite lift.

Here’s the twist, though. I’m coming around to the realisation that this record will never sound like it does in my imagination. Given the fractious stories from the mixing desk back in the day, the version I have in my hands today is most likely as good as it ever was. My impeccable mix of SOFAD is a fantasy, and sadly, I fear it will always be thus.

I have only good things to say about this pressing and prefer this to the digital master CD release. There is something even more impressive in how the texture of the mix translates with this vinyl master. Record is flawless, no surface noise, can’t even believe how clear it sounds. Definitely pick this up.

Love the album. The pressing is ok. Bit I prefer cheap unofficial Russian Lp. As the latter sounds better. I agree with a youtuber Valeron (see it on YouTube). He compared different pressings of the album.

VERY bad quality and best song cut in half... dont waste your money!

Sounds just cool. Cheap and true but unofficial. “Valeron” on YouTube shot a good comparison video about different releases of this album. Watch it and listen to the samples.

Packaging is excellent. Mastering is a bit of a mess. Pressing is ok. Hardly a pop. 6/10. Hard to find even when this is a repress. Probably digitally sourced.

A real mixed bag sadly, firstly the pressing is excellent, no surface noise or distortion but again its the usual story with remasters, this is a cd that you could probably buy for a third of the price, pressed onto vinyl.

the mastering is flat, lacking bass with the synths mixed far to high.

i guess one day i will get the original and if you are considering buying this price for £30 DON'T buy a cd instead.

First impression is it sounds like my old CD. Not very impressive as far as vinyl sounds. Love the album to pieces but yeah other than it being a very quiet and completely flat pressed album it sounds pretty much like a CD. Great packaging and presentation but that's like it. Looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and go OG?
