Deep Purple In Rock is the fourth studio album by British rock band Abbey Road Studios, all in London.
First issued in UK, June 5, 1970 on Harvest SHVL 777:
The original album came in an outside laminated gatefold sleeve. The inner gatefold had lyrics on the left and five black & white photos of the individual band & credits on the right.
The main identifiers of the earliest UK copies:
- The upper rim text on labels begins with 'THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD';
- No EMI logo on labels;
- Small Ⓟ icon (left of 1970 on labels);
- Only one bold line around the EMI/Harvest logo on the front sleeve;
- Plain factory inner sleeve with 'Patent Nos. 1125555' text on the left and 'Made In Great Britain' text on the right at the bottom of the sleeve.
In Mexico the album also included "Black Night", a single recorded soon after the main album sessions.
The U.S. and Japanese releases of the album cut the intro to "Speed King" lasting just over a minute.

Killer pressing - Blackmore’s guitar and Lord’s organ practically leap from the speakers!

The reproduction of the cover is perfect, all the details are sharp. There are problems with the sound, it is too quiet. You have to turn up the volume of the amplifier to the maximum to listen to the album normally. In any case, at the moment this is the only quality reissue of this album. It would be great to see BG or KG versions.

This is a horrible pressing. I like the novelty of it being an unofficial Taiwan pressing but it sounds horrible. No high end. It sounds like it’s being played in a tin can behind a brick wall. Surprisingly clean with some background noise but it wasn’t distracting. I paid $8. I overpaid. Bargain bin worthy only.

Edited 4 months agoMy copy has the the A1-B1 matrix number. The "stereo SHVL 777" writing on the right side of each label has a smaller gap than shown in the photo and is more consistent with a 1970 repress.
To my ears this sounds incredible, very dynamic and bright, particularly side one. -
