Reviews

I don’t want to diminish the reviews below because they are one hundred percent valid, but my copy sounds absolutely fantastic. That is because I got lucky with a good copy. Solid sound here spread onto 2Lps.

Its pretty clear the high aggregate rating is for the music alone here which is a watermark of indie in the early 90s and still embarrases the Gallagher brothers in due process to this day.
However its the pressing that i want to review and i spent a few quid getting one of these from the USA to UK before i even knew of Rainbo records and all they seem to be.
I wish i hadnt frankly as my copy is pretty awful. Now, i should say prior to playing this one my experience of Rainbo is around an 80% defect/reject rate with non-fill being the most frequent and beyond repair offender but this one has it in spades 😳. It is also quite flat and it naturally doesnt suffer IGD. Theres just far too much snap and crackle throghout with my Shure nude elliptical though it has stopped short of the ripping and farting nonfill noise. There is however also horrendous LF deep rumbling from the in groove to the out groove on all four sides so even without the non fill it would sound crappy.
It is basically a bin job but i may keep it as a test disc for when a new microline cart cometh.
"This isnt the one" -
On my second copy now and "This is the one" (side 3) sounds really off and distorted. I know the album and song very well as I played it endlessly in my early twenties. Don't know what is wrong - no one else having noticed this?

Edited 5 years agoVery nice sounding record! There is minuscule amounts of surface noise (occasionally, not throughout) but mostly unnoticeable and nothing detrimental in my opinion. The gatefold sleeve is very nice quality, and the records came flat, and without blemish. This reissue is an easy recommendation for those that want this record, but don't want to spend crazy money on the superior versions.
-
Good recording but very noisy copy - especially side 3. Really ruins the quiet bits and depth of some of these classic tracks
