I seeing the Hoodoo Gurus video for "I Want You Back" on Night Flight in '84 or so and then tracking down this album. I had either the UK or Australian version with the much cooler cover, but this US version still delivers. The music is fun 80's garage rock with a side of Vegemite (and maybe a light twist of the Cramps). If "(Let's All) Turn On" doesn't cause you and your friends to bounce around, you're probably dead or paralyzed.

This pressing is really very well done and I'm kind of surprised at how good it sounds. Great clear presence and lots of "oomph". I don't know if it is a testament to the engineering/recording itself, the pressing plant, or the mastering by Frank DeLuna. Whatever it is, this pressing is really standing out more than I expected. I honestly bought this again with a little nostalgia in mind, but the quality of the sound has blown me away!

My setup: Technics SL-1500C (Ortofon Blue cartridge), Pro-Ject Tube Box S2, Yamaha A-S801, Wharfedale Linton Speakers

Not terribly sure, but I think this is the second release from this Australian band.

My roommate in college introduced me to The Gurus in '87 and I was struck by their laid back garage rock sound. Incorporating jangly campfire chord guitars and mixing elements of alt rock, power pop, surf, and psychedelic, the songs stand up well enough on this album, but the real highlight is the quality of the recording, which is super clean and powerful. The drums are punchy and the mixing is pleasant. There are no songs here to write home about, but overall a nice listen.
