frontier psychiatrist gotta be my favorite from this LP. i love the random noises here and there. really also love the 50s clip audios too. everythings all over the place, its sounds so chaotic. thats what i love about this song.

It surprises me how keen people are for the record when this album is much better suited to the CD format. The song transitions are seamless on CD and the music never stops, whereas the flow is interrupted four times when listening on vinyl. The early Australian and Swedish releases have all of the original Frontier Psychiatrist samples in tact and the latter is a gem with even more samples that I'd never even heard before. You can buy these early CD releases for a bag of chips and they still scratch the collector-itch as they came out in 2000, yet people fork out hundreds for the first pressing and quite a lot for reissues as well.

I've got it. (MODVL004 catalog number, no mention of XL anywhere.) But like was previously mentioned there's what looks like a "scratched out" XL 138 in the disc matrix. As far as I can tell this is identical to the standard issue version with the missing samples and the altered samples on Frontier Psychatrist, and as far as I know the only non-digital way to get versions with all the samples intact are very early CD pressings.
By the looks of it they removed the samples before ANY vinyl was pressed and the Australian and UK versions come from the same masters. I don't think there was an earlier version with all the samples on vinyl, and I have yet to hear someone say otherwise, but I could be wrong. Maybe there were two Australian presses (i.e. a 2000 and 2001 issue). -
I imagine that interest in this album will increase even more when The Avalanches finally drop their fabled new album, which is deep in the mix now. I never thought prices would be driven this high in the mean time despite no real news of a pending release from them.

I discovered The Avalanches when a friend sent me a CD with some mp3s of various artists. It was several years ago, my computer was still running windows 98 and the mp3s were a new technology for me. He sent me Frontier Psychiatrist and Undersea Community. These tracks fascinated me and i wanted to learn more about the Avalanches' music. They used the sampling technique, cutting out small sample from their huge collection of old records. Then mixed together, adding more intstruments, effects and turntablism tricks.
I think this record is unique and really original. One of my favourites of the 2000's for sure. If you like Trip-Hop\Indie\Balearic music this release will please you! It's a sort of concept album, as the tracks are mixed together. But i still didn't found a concept on this release, as for me is only a beautiful album that I will never get tired of.,
