Never has such a well-respected label provided better music than ever. Warp has never steered me wrong, and this compilation proves my point!
A well-good collab with legends Squarepusher and Aphex Twin, a nice Boards of Canada song, another success by the music mechanisms Plaid, a happy-go-lucky fun N.O.W tune, a fun lil number by Jimi Tenor, a Plone song that's not bad, and a harsh techno tune by Mark Bell off LFO.
Celebrating their 100th release, this compilation contains all-exclusive songs, all greatly appreciated! :) -
This is a fine compilation. The Squarepusher/AFX collaboration is sublime and the BAC tune a delight. Other solid performances from the following Warp stalwarts and Autechre manage to deliver a decent tune rather than just making insane noises and calling it music. However predictably Mira Calix and Two Lone swordsmen bring the album down. Two overrated artists in my view. Calix is just too avant garde or whatever you want to call it. She has taken hubbie Autechre's mayhem and downright abstractness to a new level and it aint pleasant. As for the Swordsmen, well like a lot of Weatherall's music it is quite frankly-dull. Luckily Mark Bell blasts us back into true Warp reality with a fine bouncing boomer at the end to remind us what we're listening to. Thanks mate.

This is THE best Warp compilation so far! All the greats are featured on this massive record; Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Autechre, Mira Calix, Nightmares On Wax, Plone, Plaid, Autechre, Boards Of Canda, Broadcast. All of these artists turned Warp into the label that it is nowadays. If you want to introduce someone to electronic music [IDM] than this is one of the best records to show what is has to offer. Personally I believe that the Warp10's are a bit 'over-abstract' and that might scare off newbie's to the 'music of the future'.
The Richard/Tom track is great: it combines the soft/weird/dark landscapes of AFX with the psychotic drum 'n' bass of Squarepusher. BoC's magic is still hearable in the simple but beautiful [MHTRTC-like] Orange Romeda.
Gotta love this record, peace !!
Music is Math !! -
One of the best Warp Compilations ever released. I would buy it just for that Autechre track. It sounds like a maniacal claymation traffic safety video. The most cheeful and twisted thing they've ever done.
