Hey all, a quick question for the community, this one vs the -5-5 pressing by Hazel Yarwood, has anyone done a comparison? Thoughts on the comparison? Thanks in advance!
-
I am one of those people who "paid $26 for it when it came out" and I can say the reason these Mono re-issues command the prices they do is due to how stellar these pressings are. I have the 2014 Mono and an OG 1965 (USA) Mono --the 1965 pressing is laughably muddy, and I'm not an audiophile by any means. If you love this album and aren't a flipper, then yes this pressing is probably worth today's asking price. That bass is buttery.

Edited 7 months agoHighly Overrated and Grossly Over valued and Nowhere near perfect. Michelle sounds like dirt being pushed with a rake. The rest sounds good but it’s definitely not mind blowing or “audiophile” and what’s the point, if it’s got inner groove distortion? Perhaps! if they Finally do the Rubber Soul box set, like they did Revolver, we’ll get a proper remaster of the Mono with it.
My Beach Boys Analogue Productions Mono reissues put ALL these Beatles monos to shame, tbh. And they were 60 bucks each with Absolutely no flaws. People really should calm down on this pressing. It’s NOT that great. My ‘76 U.K. Stereo pressing beats the crap out of it. Not One bit of distortion. Just sayin’. And Yes… I’m playing this with the Ortofon white mono cart. From the other reviews here, I see that some hear the distortion and some don’t. So either it’s their ears OR perhaps the flaws I’m experiencing are not on Every pressing. I don’t know, but mine was Sealed and in immaculate condition. So the distortion is definitely from the plant. -
I own the loud cut and this 2014 mono edition. This one is really far superior. I fell in love with this album because of this extraordinary edition!

My copy of this (2014 release, purchased in 2017) degraded without much play and no abuse, and it is noisy and crackly. For a benchmark: a Parlophone stereo copy that I bought in the mid-1970s sounds clearer and newer than this mono purchased in 2017, and I have been playing that since the mid-1970s. Very odd. Most 2014-era Beatle mono sounds great; this copy of Rubber Soul was pressed on junk vinyl.

This is quite easily a 5/5. I’m absolutely blown away with this. The best way to describe it is feels like I’m taking a step back in time. This is how this album should be experienced, I’ve listened to this album so many times and yet with this I could feel myself relive it all over again. It’s pressed nice and hot, my copy thankfully doesn’t have any distortion so I’m able to enjoy it.
I’d be surprised if another version could top this, I’m so happy with this record. -
Edited one year agoSounds fantastic..great bass and punch to it.
As do all these 2014 Monos
Turned up loud it really sounds great.
And “Michelle” sounds perfect on my copy.
Zero distortion. Paid $40 bucks for mine last month..stop paying flippers so much for these records and the prices will drop like a rock. -
