I loved all of Madonna's 80's era albums. That being said, this one is probably the best produced of the bunch, best singles too. This copy sounds incredible. Very well put together.

just got a new seald one. what a sound! wow!
hope to find more records with this kind of sound.
and of course beautiful songs... 10/10 album & pressing. -
This pressing really delivers, perfectly balanced and punchy sound throughout, the music erupts out of the speakers to great effect.

Edited 3 years agoThis is a decent collection of mid-era Madonna songs, expertly produced. Seriously, the sound on this is amazing. Great pressing too. Recommended.

Edited 3 years agoMy sister bought this on tape and it reminds me of the lovely, innocent 80's. I'm not a fan of Madonna, but I liked her better before she went so commercial that her shows look like marketing. I love "True Blue" it's beautiful, the rest is not so interesting. Nice for summer music in the background. 4/5 stars.

A really beautiful sounding vinyl. I just got a copy that basically seems untouched. It even had the poster. Sounds like it was just recorded yesterday. Love it!

Edited 6 years agoSomewhat a mixed bag, although you couldn't miss with it - here, Madonna delivered some of her most mature pieces on one side and on the other she was audibly hesitant, sticking back to the carefree sing-alongs of her earlier repertoire. With that in mind, "Jimmy Jimmy" definitely stands out as the album's weakest offering. "Live To Tell" is on the other side of the spectrum - emotional and dark (the middle part on the album version is especially chilling). Partially it provokes a question of who was there first - Madonna and Pat Leonard, or This Mortal Coil (there's a strange resemblance between "Live To Tell" and "Ivy and Neet" (from TMC's "Filigree And Shadow") due to a similar moody riff - both play from the same key and share the same year of release).
The remaining list of songs shares melancholy and feel-goodness between them to cool effect - the superb "Open Your Heart" (the sexually daring peep-show video somewhat paving the way for later episodes - "Justify My Love" and "Erotica"), "White Heat" given the aggressive touch, subverted with a tape-looped shotgun sound and James Cagney's lines from the film of the same name (the song being credited in the actor's memory; Cagney ed away in 1986), the strings-attached "Papa Don't Preach", the latin-flavoured "La Isla Bonita"... "Where's The Party" and "Love Makes The World Go Round" are deceptively merry melodies with a lyrical twist, addressing socio-political issues. The title song is a charmer with a Motown vibe. The "Warholian" cover adds to it greatly. In all, Madonna's third creation, that stays in the heart and spins with joy.
