Somewhere I have the rare red-label 12" and 7" pressings of "Rapper's Delight" I got via Big State Distribution in Dallas in 1979. It was a big club hit, even in most gay bars that normally played no black or R&B music. That is a testament how universal this song became where everyone played this into the ground back in the day, yet got little radio play in most pop stations in the US. Not bad for a 12" that has sold over 3-1/2 million copies so far. Such an amazing part of history for such an unusual record that charted so well worldwide: Canada, Netherlands, & Spain #1; Belgium, , Norway, Sweden, Switzerland #2; South Africa, West , US Soul/R&B and UK #3; Austria #5; Ireland #14, New Zealand #18, US Hot 100 #36; Australia #37.

The very first hip hop record. Also made it into the charts and basically defined a new genre.
