This was the first record I ever bought. Age 12, 2010. I treasure it. I loved early Genesis and found this in the basement of an antiques store- it was on a crowded table in a damp Ohio basement with a pull string light. Pittsburgh style. I had little idea what I was looking at. Pulled it from its sleeve- ah, a record. Sign on the table told me it was $1 or $2; I didn't believe it. Searched around for more Genesis and found none. Carried it upstairs and I asked the fella at the counter if it was truly a dollar. He said yes. I was in disbelief.
He made me a phosphate and I ogled the record. My grandpa Jerry took me home and dug out my daddy's vinyl disc/cassette/radio player in his meticulously organized basement. Needed a fresh needle but I didn't know about hifi- I just was in disbelief that the record played the songs I knew. Fuzzy and noisy Mercy Street thru a mid 80s economy 3-in-1.
My dad came home from his business and my grandpa told him I bought a vinyl record today. My dad drove me back to our house and took me to my bedroom. We had a walk-in closet in my old room that we used for storage. He brought his vinyl records down from his teen years- told me vinyl was sweet. So cool. The album art. The stickers included. Inserts. I soon started going to flea markets and befriended a seller who had a good amount of prog. Built up a small collection of prog and essentials. Once i visited an antique store, spent $12 on a King Crimson In The Wake record, scratched and seam splitted. Most expensive album I had bought at that time, struggled to come to with the purchase as a 12 year old little girl. Glued and repainted the distressed sleeve; i still have it. Got a Crosley for Christmas that year and just melted!
Disc sounds good played thru a mid range setup and a low range setup. If running through a high end setup, you know- club edition is club edition. Mine is a pretty clean copy. Essential for any casual or serious collector. This is one of the best mixed albums of all time, vinyl sounds best, maybe shy of flac quality, but the bond to a record is the real joy of hi-fi. -
Anyone know if the club editions are cut hot like the standard issues from 1986, or do they have less sibilance?
