Edited 4 years agoCan anyone tell me if this is the version that runner ups of MTV’s 1983 The police party plane contest received? I am one of those lucky people and I’ve been curious to find out more about this album as far as how much of a collector’s item it is even though I probably would never ever sell it.
I was glad to find out that this album as well as the other “regular” version (which I also have) that was for sale in stores are purple when held up to the light which I don’t think I even knew back then. Or maybe I forgot.
As far as I can tell, this is the only artwork where the artwork on mine matches artwork here. I know there were a thousand runner-ups for that contest, but I don’t know how many copies were manufactured in addition to the thousand that runner-ups received. Or were there only 1000 copies total?
Regardless it was nice reminiscing about that time in my life and I got a laugh after I read about the horrible experience that happened for the people who won and the people that accompanied them so I guess I’m glad that I was a runner up even though I being disappointed that I didn’t win while being excited that I got this great gift. I still even have the letter from MTV that accompanied the album in the mail.
Thanks for any helpful information you can provide!!! -
Compared this to another 1983 US translucent purple copy that I had, and this one is louder! Not sure if it's a different pressing plant or if the stamper was just hotter on this one. This is a seriously great sounding record.

Only the discog who own US copies seem to be putting in colour variations. No offense, but that skews stats: it's more important to know how many copies are input of a particular pressing, not necessarily a random printing. And are we going from bottom to top, in listing colours, or (as I assume) top to bottom? But wait! The arrangement on cover is 90 degrees rotated from the spine, and how it sits on the shelf. Anyway, I think there's too many choices in the US pressings of this title, and it messes with total numbers on discogs.
