This release is not nearly as bright in the upper-mids as the original copy I lost recently - it sounds liked a tamed-down version of the original. Clean, quiet, without much excitement in the presence, but a beautiful package - -
It literally explodes out of the speakers. So much detail that you hear things you might not want to, e.g., how different tape sources were mixed to form the original master. This is more evidence that Bernie Grundman beats Kevin Gray as a mastering engineer every time. Gray has sucked the life out of a number of rock and pop classics and is only consistently good with the Blue Note Tone Poets jazz series. But Grundman always captures and heightens the original sound of the OG record. With this particular one-LP reissue, even the color vinyl is exactly the right shade of magenta to match the jacket. First-class. -
My copy appears to have the first chunk of the opening Side A drum fill cut off. Anyone else? -
I compared this with an Og Australian pressing I have. The older pressing sounds a little better but there isn’t much in it. I really like this reissue plus it is a reissue of the US pressing so 2 extra tracks compared to UK and Aus pressings. -

Edited one year agoAssuming this is the same Bernie Grundman mastering as the 2023 RSD release? Can anyone confirm BG in the runouts?
