Not a whole lotta crackle on mine, apart from the usual intentional Waitsian sawdust n spit noise. It is pressed extremely quietly yes, but i believe this might be to try make sure 30 mins per side can be done without too much distortion? Means ya gotta crank it more than other records but I’m more than happy to do that for Tom.

Bought my copy of the 'Trans Milk' direct from Kings Road Merch in the EU, all I've done is spin it at 78rpm with an Anti Stat brush & given it a play. Maybe the Coloured pressing is slightly better than the Black as I've heard barely any surface noise worth mentioning but damn is it quiet, had to crank up the amp in order to get anything from it. the Red vinyl HQ reissues a few years back, seemed Tom wasn't happy at all with the pressing & replacements were ordered, needs similar doing here with the whole album being blessed with a 2LP version.

The milky white vinyl is beautiful, but the playback is terribly crackly, even after a run through the Spin Clean. Too bad! This album is such an awesome concept. It deserves a better reissue. This one is disappointing.

I was mortified to see the single album format when it was delivered, knowing it was nearly an hour long. (I didn’t read the profile details closely enough when I ordered) However compared to other reviews I guess I got lucky - apart from the volume levels which are VERY low, my copy sounds fine - very little crackle with some faint rasp noise on side 2 due to pushing the volume up so high, but a reasonably detailed remaster overall. You do have to really crank the bastard though, side 2 is crazy low volume on my copy…

I would second what fredzep01 says: it shouldn't be this way, but a lot depends on how well you clean the disc up (sadly typical of the Czech pressing source), BUT if you have a decent (i.e. expensive) deep cleaner, you should get an excellent sounding disc for your efforts. As others have said, the black vinyl version is a disaster - too quiet indeed - but the milk coloured vinyl sounds wonderful once it has been dunked and dried - much better balance and clarity than the first vinyl pressing.

Where’s the ferocity? Where’s the power? This pressing is woefully too quiet. It’s the only LP I own where I can turn my amp all the way up and it’s still not very powerful or loud. I’m using a Parasound integrated amp with GoldenEar Triton 2+ speakers. If I sat you down and spun any other quality vinyl pressing with the volume just shy of half way, you’d feel the presence, the bass, the power … if I put this LP on, you’d wonder if something was wrong with my gear.
What a horrible disappointment. I wish they would’ve done a two LP version mastered louder and hotter.
I guess I’ll have to fork out the $$$ and find an original Euro pressing. Damn.

Follow-up: side 2 seems a bit better to my ears, not quite as quiet as side 1.

I’m not keen on remasters but this sounds better than the original, analogue or digital. The drums and percussions, which what this album does so well, just come alive. I got the black version first, sent it back half way through the first side. This is better, still a few pops here and there. Side A is noisy, side B flawless. Overall, no way near as bad as the black version.

A few pops and clicks so better QC than expected.

Recorded very low so you will need to pump up the volume.

Not sure if it’s my ears but the remaster itself is “ok”

My translucent milk copy had the old crackle and pop surface issue before I put it through the cleaning machine, and it now plays stunningly, also the depth of the drum is astounding in some of the songs,
I have zero complaints, what a great album.

What is the matrix on these European limited press? Trying to find out if the same as the US version.
