Tom Waits – Bone Machine

Bought it when it was released, since it's one of my all-time favourite Tom Waits' records, wet-cleaned & listened to it. Completely disappointed, found it horrible and unlistenable…

BUT one year and half later, thoroughly ed it on my new spincare machine… and surprise ! It actually sounds pretty good ! Still way too quiet but at least it doesn't have a sh*tshow of noises and crackles as before, making it unlistenable. Now it's fine enough.

Not a whole lotta crackle on mine, apart from the usual intentional Waitsian sawdust n spit noise. It is pressed extremely quietly yes, but i believe this might be to try make sure 30 mins per side can be done without too much distortion? Means ya gotta crank it more than other records but I’m more than happy to do that for Tom.

Going against the grain here…my copy is pretty good. Seems like this is a QC issue and I lucked out. I read the reviews before buying but pulled the trigger because this album is a must have and these are the only pressings available. Have a scratch for about 15secs on ‘Who Are You’ but otherwise entirely acceptable by my standards. The record is indeed quiet though…possibly the most quiet in my collection. That would be a big issue if I had crackles….but all good. (The remastering is excellent by the way) if you are like me and really really wanted this album on vinyl…I’d say it’s worth the gamble but seems more likely that you will lose based on the number of negative reviews. (From this set Island Remasters, I also have Franks Wild Years which is excellent….and Swordfish….which is garbage….seems like a mixed bag in general)

Paid a pretty penny for a sealed copy, but received a bootleg. Fortunately the seller is offering a full refund. The sealed cover appears legitimate, so buyers beware.

Tittz on a Rittz. Heavy black vinyl. Gave it a wet wipe down. Just listened on a holiday morning. And it sounds amazing. Zero noise. Flat like a pancake. So good.

Bought my copy of the 'Trans Milk' direct from Kings Road Merch in the EU, all I've done is spin it at 78rpm with an Anti Stat brush & given it a play. Maybe the Coloured pressing is slightly better than the Black as I've heard barely any surface noise worth mentioning but damn is it quiet, had to crank up the amp in order to get anything from it. the Red vinyl HQ reissues a few years back, seemed Tom wasn't happy at all with the pressing & replacements were ordered, needs similar doing here with the whole album being blessed with a 2LP version.

What a complete disaster. Far, far too much noise, and not great mastering. What a hack job. Too bad, as it's a great album musically.

Great music, but subpar pressing riddled with ticks and pops. For shame!

The milky white vinyl is beautiful, but the playback is terribly crackly, even after a run through the Spin Clean. Too bad! This album is such an awesome concept. It deserves a better reissue. This one is disappointing.
