Incredible boxset, incredible pressings, incredible mixes.
Listening to the stereo mixes feels like I'm listening to Revolver for the first time again. I compared the mono pressing in this boxset to my original pressing mono copy, and they sound the same, minus the decades of ware and tear. -
Purchased the box through a Amazon sale for 56 bucks. All LPs are in great condition. No scratches or distortion. The Mono LP is amazing.
GZ did a amazing Job on this boxset. Beats what Optimal has been doing recently. -
Phenomenal box set. This is a great celebration of a legendary album. Both the stereo and mono versions sound fantastic. I really do enjoy the stereo mix and think everything sounds crisp and clear. The EP tracks sound just as good
The real gems are all of the demos and outtakes. You really feel like you get a sense for how some of these songs came together. All wrapped up with a beautiful hardcover book in a box.
To make things even better, I picked up this set for only $100! -

Crazy, I received a box with two stereo albums as well. Just from this forum that is three buyers. It is clearly a packaging issue with this product.

Edited one month agoFantastic new mix, I've heard some folks say it's better than the 2014 mono mix which says a lot. Dynamics and soundstage are great, highly recommend!

I'm surprised by the mono version, sounds very powerful and alive, this is the first time I listen to this record in mono and I know almost everyone prefers it over the stereo mix yet for the casual listener a stereo version would do the job just fine imo, if it happens you love this record and you wanna get more of it, and you have the bucks to get a mono version (new are expensive and rare, and used are getting difficult to get a hold of, plus they are usually noisy) then sure get the mono. Regarding the records, end of side A of the mono version is a bit "trebbly" and I would even say it has some distortion, tho maybe that's just the way it was supposed to sound, cause it sounds much more fuller and punchier than the stereo version, anyway, it is nothing that bad either. The new stereo mix is almost the same as I this record from my previous listen of my standard 2012 vinyl, almost, so no many surprises there. The 7" is ok as a fancy thing but I doubt I will listen to it again anytime soon. The outtakes 2LP is the real gem of this box, it has everything, alternative takes, instrumentals, demos, work in progress versions, you name it, all these are entertaining and interesting to hear, and they sound good, even the demos, I don't know if this 2LP record is available as a stand alone but it justifies this box set for sure. I was lucky to get this box on an amazon price drop for 100 euros, this should have been the entry price for this, but I it was around 190 euros if not more, that's insane, don't overpay for this, the box is quality but it does not justify such price, 100 euros or less. Overall a nice item for fans of this record wanting to get more out of it, casual listeners do not need this.
-
My mono record has inner groove distortion only on "She Said, She Said". "Tomorrow Never Knows" sounds without that problem.
