The ratings for this album and its various editions seem to be all over the place. This may be because it is definitely of its time ( the early 70s) and from a period in Ray`s career where he had total artistic control and he recorded whatever he fancied. So what you have here is a collection of overly sentimental, maudlin tracks that are kind of corny. However as a middle aged 21st century man, I can actually appreciate what's here. Its family friendly and speaks to a wide range of people. I am a big fan of Ray Charles and am overall happy with this 50th anniversary edition. The mastering is rather nice and engaging and treats Ray's work with the respect due to a legend. It is actually worth it for his gospel drenched America the Beautiful. Maybe more for fans like myself, not really essential listening.
