Picked it up today and had only time to listen to side A (which apparently supposed to be the problematic one) and it sounds awesome. Happy to report that I had no skips whatsoever. Also the packaging is very nicely done and for some reason I got two codes. If you have a good turntable, not those cheap and crappy suitcase ones then you won't have any problems, so go for it!

Update: Sounds good all the way through, lovely pressing

They say Autechre isn't warm or human, and that it started with this album. But as soon as "Cipater" kicks in, I'm enveloped in its embrace with it dropping boulders on my chest.

And no problem with a repress here, it sounds great, and it's actually an upgrade on the original as with many Warp releases in the 90s, those records were razor thin and felt really brittle, like they would break when you took them out of the sleeve.

This an early insectoid masterpiece from Autechre, which paved the way for many great LPs and EPs to come.

One of Autechre's best albums. Unfortunately, the A1 side is very problematic. The tracks probably weren't cut deep enough. The first order I had to send back - not audible. The needle jumped endlessly - adjusting the tonearm didn't help. Vinyl, from the second order, was better but still had problems. After about 2-3 hours of adjusting the tonearm, it finally worked to hear the A1 side without any skips. Be careful when buying.

Sadly Cipater constantly skips well over 20 times in the song. The rest of the songs seem mostly normal..

Really, really great sound. The transients really shine on this pressing. A real massage for the ol eardrums. And quite possibly the most beautifully packaged record in my collection.

My copy sounds great, no skips, flat, VERY quiet (re: background noise), music is clear and punchy. It's a really good repress; and the cover is great too.

They haven't done an el cheapo reissue here.

Just picked up a copy of the reissue last week.
I have no skipping issues at all with mine thankfully.

Never had this on vinyl before and I'm floored by how much detail there is the artwork. Fantastic stuff.

LP5 has been my favourite Autechre album for decades, but the last few years I find myself listening more and more to Chiastic Slide. And I'd say it's pipped LP5 to the top these days.

I have the original vinyl and i got the reissue as to not play the original anymore. Cipater is almost unlistenable - skips all over the place. I adjusted my tone arm etc and its still a skittering mess. The orginal had some slight skipping issues but this is 100% worse. Sending back and not wanting a replacement. Bummer.

Just a brief note about the artwork. While I vaguely CD versions looking slick, the packaging on this 2xLP reissue is on another planet entirely. It's got embossed grooves pressed into the paper, glossy metallic layers in different colours, a somewhat sinister crosshair field reminiscent of a HUD display on an attack aircraft. Even the inside of the paper sleeve has artwork printed on it.

Absolute tour de force by the Designers Republic. Surely one of the most distinctive album designs of the late '90s.
