i have an italian first pressing and when I first listened to both records start to finish I immediately realized how the original mix and this one are totally night and day! the OG mix is more bright and open, with the voice that's so much in your face and on a whole different layer than the instruments, definitely a choice of mixing of that time to make the songs more enjoyable for those who listened to AM Radios.
This remix on the other hand is compressed as hell with lots of bass and zero 3D separation, I really can't choose a favourite because I find both too exaggerated in their own ways.

The pressing by the way is great but i found some loud pops during One Slip and in general it's not the quietest record i ever heard.

Edit: I sold my first pressing! now this is my go-to copy, if you manage the bass it's pretty enjoyable in my opinion and I also I was tired of the IGD during the solo of On The Turning Away

I got a bad one pressed of pice. In the background is always an unidentified noise to hear. Really bad. Goes back to the seller!

The new mix and sound is good, the flip cover is very high quality, the inner covers are lined in black and there is also an insert with pictures. Unfortunately, the pressing of the vinyl is only mediocre, there are always cracks, even after the record has been washed several times.

I prefer this to the '87 release. At least, it's worth getting as a good alternative. Spacious, 3 dimensional sound. Great instrument separation. The odd pop, but nothing major. Slight warp on the outer inch of LP1 that causes the arm to lurch slightly, but it tracks fine. Excellent presentation, sleeve quality, artwork and book.

Very happy with this version. It definitely has more clarity on guitars and sonics overall. Beautiful saxes. I rely on PF’s vision of how this album should sound. So it will undoubtedly stay in my collection. The packaging is great - cool booklet, thick gatefold cardboard, antistatic sleeves for the plates.
Dead quiet surface (I have 3A/3B matrices).

No issues at all with my copy, and I love the materials they used to produce it.

I would have far preferred they made a really nice pressing of the original as I'm not a fan of the new mix. The bass is far too heavy for my ears - The new bass guitar track completely overpowers the rest of it.. The original 1987 pressing on Japanese Vinyl is the pick of the bunch for me.

Still it's a nice addition to any PF fan's collection. This album is severely underrated in my opinion, and it deserves more praise than it receives.

It looks I'm just another lucky one as my copy is as silent as a CD and sounds amazing. I have to agree with the previous comment that this is interesting remix but too much compression on the drums at a point that sounds almost annoying. Missing the echo effect on the drums in Terminal Frost song but I guess this is a personal taste thing.
In overal I'm very satisfied with the pressing and felt a relief while I read all the comments about bad pressing issues like the one I had with Animals 2018 remix.

I was lucky in that my copy didn’t seem to suffer in QC like others here have said. Other than needing a wet clean, the records were relatively quiet, with no pops or clicks and spun flat. I love the quality textured and tactile feel of the gatefold too, it’s very nicely done and the additional liner booklet is a bonus.

As for the remix itself, hmm very interesting, there’s aspects of it that I like better, like the way that they’ve cleaned up the drum parts (with Nick Mason coming in to lay down the drum tracks again) but there are places where the compression is noticeable and the remixed elements could have been a little more cohesive. It’s quite apparent if you’re familiar with the original mix. They had the right idea. Nonetheless it’s a really good sounding remix and the 45rpm cut gives it that additional bump in detail and dynamics. Overall, I did enjoy this edition very much.

It is a very bad pressing. Very noisy. I don't recommend it.

I just received a pristine copy of this release, that I ordered through amazon warehouse
The pressing is flawless and the new mix a big improvement to the original album.
I always hold my breath when ordering an album that is pressed by optimal, but it looks like this time I was lucky.
But it might as well be a re-press after all those complaints.
