Mixing Western pop to African fusion was the masterstroke – it helped put a further chink in the apartheid system in South Africa & showed the world that the faceless "blacks" of South Africa were real people with talents, hopes, aspirations & feelings & opened up the richness of African music to western youth. A timeless masterpiece of ethno-folk-pop/rock that mixes wonderful rhythms, melodies, harmonies, instrumentation & stories to create good music that speaks for itself. Dust off your djembe & in.
An immaculate album. -
Probably Paul Simon's most successful solo album, it showcases his infatuation with the sound of South African township music, virtually unheard of outside the country in the 1980s. The album was hugely popular when released and was often played on radio. The sound quality of the LP is stellar, so alive compared to the dull and muddy CD.
