It's a very good & intriguing demo, and very interesting that it was recorded in Switzerland with David Richards, and with a different band (except for Nile)--but in no way can it touch the final version--I really miss Omar's drum fills and overall feel, plus the background vocals.

Drums, bass, guitar and Bowie. Result = something timeless.
As a lifelong fan of The Chic Organisation, I'm all in favour of this stripped back demo....or rather this raw version before they recorded it again with more 80s production layers. Yep, prefer it.

I got to about 8 minutes once all the edits were stuck back together.

Oh my god, this sounds amazing and took me by total surprise! This is what RSD is all about! Better than the original version in my opinion.
-
The richness and depth on this track is due to it apparently being cut on 200 gram virgin vinyl! A very heavy piece of vinyl, can only assume this is so.

Edited 4 years agoRuntime is not a typo, it's really 7:34, I checked it. All the digital files you can buy and stream are only 5:18, so this RSD vinyl version is really something special.

Edited 7 years agoThis reissue sounds better than all the recent Bowie reissues I've heard combined. What did they do here? This mix packs a punch. A very raw, energetic version of the classic 'Let's Dance.' Damn it sounds good. The drums are heavy as hell and really pack a punch. A very open and spacious sounding mix, with nice dynamics and balance. Nice separation and detail. This has to be cut from tape, the sound is just so powerful it's hard to believe otherwise. A real treat for Bowie fans. I really enjoy this demo version.
