Sounds excellent to me. Flat record, no noise, no issues playing it. Couldn't be happier. Love the thick cover.

I'm playing my copy LOUD. Surface noise is there, but it's a low crackle, and I haven't cleaned it. 2nd play. Still pretty quiet. Mastering is lovely. For the type of recording, I doubt we'll see better. Did he record it to DAT?
-
Great sound, and the look of the packaging is fantastic. But like others have mentioned, there is just too much popping. I have albums pressed in the 70’s that have less surface noise.
-
The pressing rings are not consistent with RTI. I suspect this was cut at RTI but pressed elsewhere. Perhaps United?

I played my copy again last night. It is not totally silent but I don't think it is nearly as bad as some people claim. I guess maybe if you crank the album but it's not that kind of music to me. Great packaging too. Overall I'm very happy.

Have 2 copies, both are noisy throughout. It’s better than the original release but for this being and RTI pressing it is not good. Real shame as this album is a winner but the lack of quality to the pressing is just a let down.
-
Damn I so wish this would get pressed again. There's so many of the self-titled reissue floating around rn for nothing and I don't intend to shell out $100+ to complete the superior reissue collection, ja feel?
-
This pressing is superior to my original in that there are far fewer stray pops. However, it’s still not perfect, even with a good wet cleaning. I’m still very happy to own a pressing that I can actually listen to without being driven mad. Also the packaging is very nice - a thick tip-on gatefold jacket and spot gloss front.
-
Nicely mastered. Pressing is not great however. Would probably not be such an issue on a louder album with fewer quiet/silent ages, but for this it’s definitely a bummer. It IS better than any other pressing I’ve heard, but crazy that we’re now this many versions and years in and still none of them is even approaching perfection. That said, if the S/T anniversary release ends up sounding at all like this it would still be a massive improvement on every other version of that album.

It’s like sitting in that cabin in the woods. A beautiful thing. Grab a book and a blanket. If you’ve got a fire, light it.
