Edited 6 months agoFor classical record collectors, the location "Jesus-Christus-Kirche, Berlin" is well known as a recording studio for Deutsche Grammophon and other major labels; but: not only orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic - also the organ of this church (built in 1970 by Emil Hammer, Hannover) harmonises perfectly with its famous acoustics, as can be heard on the present recordings of Franz Schmidt's organ works: Late Romantic organ music that nevertheless comes across with great clarity in all its nuances (both intimate and powerful), without being drowned in large-scale reverberation.
It's a pity that not many more recordings have been made on this organ.* Hopefully this will change after its renovation, planned for 2025/26!
