Diana Ross – Why Do Fools Fall In Love

Diana was queen of Motown and one of the top 5 female artists in the world. This was her debut on RCA and it was a departure from the Motown years. It was the start of a new decade and anew start for Diana. Much was expected but it wasn't what we were used to- had a more poppy feel and the production was nowhere near as good as the classic 70s albums. Diana had more direct input and I would question her judgment. Despite that it did sell strongly and produced one of her biggest selling singles- a lame 2nd rate cover of Frankie Lymon's Why Do Fools Fall In Love. Far frothier best work. Her subsequent releases on RCA would see her star power and chart success decline rapidly. Leaving Motown was probably the worst thing she ever did. Her career never fully recovered in the US. Diana would increasingly rely on the UK and Europe for success although even there it was sporadic.
