Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes

Finding a decent pressing of this album has been a struggle. I have purchased several copies of the FF/SG combo (all on black vinyl) and every single pressing was a mess - noisy, warped, or both. I even purchased the Fleet Foxes boxset with all of their early work thinking that such an "elite" package would contain a good pressing, but even this was a disappointment - the copy of the album in the boxset was probably the worst case of warping I have ever seen with a new record (I thought it would actually kick my stylus off the record while playing!).

So when I saw that there was a new pressing of the FF/SG combo on orange vinyl (exclusive to Canada) I thought I would give this record one last go since it's a favourite album that seems like it was written and recorded for vinyl. This is by far the best pressing of the album I have come across. Is it perfect? Heck no. There are ticks here and there, particularly on Side B of the FF album. Yet this pressing is listenable. Audible ticks do not interfere with enjoyment of the music, and most of the pressing is silent. My copy is flat; however the label on Side B is off-centre.

I recommend this pressing for those that have been searching for a decent copy of the album on vinyl. The mastering is quite strong and it does sound better than previous pressings. Some ticks here and there, but that is to be expected with Sub Pop releases. I am hoping that someday an audiophile label decides to master and press this gem of a record, though!

So, I have both this release and what I believe is the '08 OG release. My '08 OG version has all the differences mentioned above (spine with larger Sub Pop logo at the top, Fleet Foxes down bit from the '13 pressing, and the SP 777 on the spine up an inch compared to this '13 pressing). Since I have both, this is easy to compare--they are different. However, strangely, my '08 has the plastic sleeves instead of the paper sleeves. So, either the '08 had some come with plastic sleeves instead of paper sleeves, or there was a later pressing that otherwise perfectly mirrored the OG pressing (including having the same spine and none of the differences indicated).

Sounds great. Not sure why my B&N slapped a $20 "Cheap!" sticker on it, but I'm not complaining.

My wife just bought this for me for Valentine’s Day. Fantastic sound! The acoustic instruments sound warm and clear. Record was flat. I haven’t cleaned it yet but it is still pretty much silent aside from a few light pops and clicks. This is a great album in general that just sounds even better on vinyl. I was also excited to see it came with the sun giant Ep. Your collection needs this album

My copy is super noisy. Sun Giant isn't as bad but self titled is pretty awful for pops and clicks even after cleaning. There's no visible scratches or anything, it's just super crackly all the way through both sides

my copy is very good. very minimal poops, only noticeable during the quite parts of the album. I have always liked the fleet foxes but my respect for them jumped when I saw them perform at Merriweather post pavilion Aug 2022. Wow!! They are one of those groups that are on another level performing live. I highly recommend seeking a ticket.

I wonder if there's a newer pressing that should be logged. Mine seems closer to this one, but didn't come with a code, and the inner sleeves are poly lined paper.

Just got a copy of this and it sounds pretty darn sweet. I only have the Box Set version of "Fleet Foxes" (without the EP) to compare it to, and they sound pretty comparable. Not sure how it stands up to the other versions or if it is the same pressing etc. but would love to know if anyone else has more info on this one.

Why is this pricing listed pretty low as compared to the other represses or other vinyls in this discog? I thought 1st pressings were more valuable?

Prior to purchasing this today, I had only ever heard this music on streaming and sweet jesus this is so much better. These songs are so strong that I would listen to them at virtually any quality, but this envelops you in the music and holds you warmly. So glad I picked this up. And very glad Sun Giant was included. Those tracks have always felt like they belong with this album.
